Complete Guide to What to Eat After Breaking Fast
Karva Chauth is one of the most auspicious, significant, and anticipated events in Indian culture.
Women begin their day by praying and eating sargi. Once the day breaks, women refrain from consuming any food or drink, even water. Once the day draws to a close, the fast is broken by the lady.
Fasting for one full day is not an easy task. The body’s numerous organs can suffer damage from fasting if it is not broken or observed properly. Here are a few guidelines by expert nutritionists and dietitians to ensure the festival is celebrated safely. The liver will utilise the saved glucose it will receive from lipids stored after only eight hours of fasting, during which time it has used energy from carbohydrates. As follows:
1.Always break the fast with water.
The body is dehydrated, so it needs instant and correct rehydration. Water is a great stomach relaxant. According to nutritionist Gurveen Toor, “Electrolytes are necessary to replenish a body that hasn’t received water. Sweet salted lemonade is highly recommended, as is a modest serving of freshly squeezed mosambi juice. “This can be followed by consuming nuts. Almonds, walnuts, cashews, and dehydrated figs are storehouses of good fats and provide sustainable energy to the body. ” Basically, having anything that is spicy or pungent on an empty stomach can be harmful for it has been in a particular state for a long time.
2.Steer clear of alcohol and drinks with high GI.
Dr. Neena Luthra, an expert nutritionist, and a professional dietitian, claims that the body “maintains specific sugar levels while fasting. It has been in that state for 14-16 hours. Sudden exposure to processed foods like sauces which have a high GI can cause bloating” and “quick insulin spike can be quite dangerous.” Having alcohol without eating anything, will make it pass directly into the bloodstream, therefore, making absorption increase at a very high rate.
3.Avoid eating uncooked food.
For Dr. Luthra, ladies who observe fast must bear in mind to “have fully and a properly cooked dinner. Digesting raw food can be a task for the stomach that has been resting throughout the day.” Having raw vegetables on an empty stomach can cause bloating, and excessive acidity.
4.Maintain distance from cruciferous vegetables.
Cruciferous vegetables like kale, cabbage, spinach, and many others are loaded with complex sugars. When these vegetables are eaten on an empty stomach, flatulence can get worse.
Fasting is not an easy job. The human body has to put in a whole lot of effort to run smoothly for an entire day.
When asked if there is a certain section of people who must remain cautious while fasting, Dr. Luthra mentioned the following points.
Cancer patients: The body of a cancer patient is depleted. “While some people are on oral chemotherapy, others are on intravenous therapy. Depriving the body of food and nutrients for more than 16 hours can be very risky for them as their condition is medically very fragile. “
Kidney patients: Most of the patients with kidney issues are on regular medication. “Avoiding food intake for long periods can cause an electrolyte imbalance. This can interfere with the functioning of the body that is already finding it hard to cope with previous issues.
Diabetics face the danger of getting blood sugar levels too low, also known as hypoglycemia. This can lead to blood sugar levels fluctuating, i.e., they can go very high or very low, leading to diabetic ketoacidosis.
Expectant mothers: According to Dr. Luthra, “We usually ask the above-mentioned patients to fast for small periods. If the family agrees, we recommend patients and expectant mothers have a glass of milk and a banana around noon. Later, around 4, I would recommend they have a glass of coconut water. This will help them maintain their energy and keep their bodies from feeling stressed. “
Many health experts suggest fasting because it is extremely effective when it comes to improving the cardio-vascular health of a person, and it also aids in keeping the memory sharp. While rituals are followed by those with disciplined mindsets who also comprehend their significance. Nevertheless, prioritizing health is a must.
