With Tambe’s struggling life and the film’s narrative, Kaun Pravin Tambe? is a test in and of itself. Director Jayprad Desai attempts to tell the narrative of Pravin Tambe, a late bloomer in Indian cricket.
The way Shreyas Talpade lives up to the story of Pravin Tambe feels like he snatched those 134 minutes of your life for a better good.

Plot
The biopic is based on the life of Indian cricketer Pravin Tambe (Shreyas Talpade), who made his IPL debut at the age of 41 after being discovered by Rahul Dravid for this big league despite having no first-class or international cricketing experience. His desire to play in the Ranji Trophy kept his ambition alive.
Story/Screenplay/Direction
The storey of a man who is passionate and committed to his first love, cricket, demonstrates his grit, which distinguishes him from other players who have failed to prosper in the sport, such as Rajat Sanyal (a cricket aspirant turned sports journalist). The storey, written by Kiran Yadnyopavit, begins with a six but gradually progresses to a long and exhausting journey.
It may either leave you with an impression of the character, as one can relate to Tambe’s life story, or it may leave you with a difficult time watching an unnecessarily protracted narrative with no dramatic ups and downs in between except the climax. After all, how easy is it to watch someone waiting for a result and hoping to pass every time he picks up the newspaper in the hopes of finding his name in it? Certainly not.
The script is penned beautifully with a beauty that stands throughout the film is its simplicity. This is a story that will inspire many. The story is aimed not only at fellow cricket enthusiasts, but to anyone who, like Tambe, needs three important Ds – Discipline, Dedication and Determination.
Everyone has a gift that others are more aware of than they are of themselves. The period when Vidyadhar Paradkar (Ashish Vidyarthi) discovered this medium pacer’s natural gift of spinning, as well as Rajat Sanyal, who recognized Tambe’s talent but refused to accept his insecurities as a failed player over Tambe’s never-dying attitude.
The film’s direction is well-executed, with excellent art direction. The film’s artefacts captured the spirit of Tambe’s life path, which began and finished in the same house – from childhood through his IPL debut. The critical edits and editing in the scenes shot make this film a winner in its own right. The film appeared to be one-of-a-kind and genuine as a result of this.
Performance
Shreyas Talpade’s acting was in his purest form. Just like “Life ho ya match… all you need is one good over,” Shreyas nurtured and polished himself as an actor for THIS ONE role. By far this is his best performance till date with right emotions and moments he lived as Pravin Tambe.
Anjali Patil was an epitome in the supporting role. The one which she nailed it like snapping fingers. Although looking at Shreyas as Tambe, who was often mentioned for his reversing age and fitness in the film, makers balanced out Vaishali’s ageing look with Tambe that turned out a bit unnatural.
Parambrata Chatterjee, once again charming and underrated. His acting was strong and inevitable, just like the character demands. Ashish Vidyarthi was another vigilant actor whose performance is above par.
Overall
Apart from film naturally creates a monotonous narrative audience per se, the biopic like this will be cherished in long time. A Hollywood film like ‘Joker’ is the best example to describe how that film should be watched by everyone still not meant for all. As a result, Kaun Pavin Tambe? will appeal to a different audience, one that will appreciate the peculiarity of an ordinary film.
The film has an overall warmth to it that carries a great sense of emotion at the end, and stands out in sports genre, thanks to the quintessential acting and storyline. Watch Kaun Pravin Tambe? streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
