In his latest move aimed at bringing together an alliance of like-minded parties against the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav in Patna.
The leaders appeared at few events before heading for lunch. Mr. Rao, donning a fedora hat, posed for pictures while being welcomed with flower bouquets by his Bihar compeer and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Mr. Yadav.
The three leaders are expected to discuss national politics and strategies to counter BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Taking a dig at the meeting, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said that the meeting is a ‘get together of two day-dreamers’.
Modi, who remained deputy chief minister to Nitish Kumar in a decade long alliance of BJP-JDU in Bihar slammed KCR and Nitish Kumar. He said that it’s a meeting of two leaders who are losing their ground in their states but want to become prime minister of the country.
Modi takes a dig at Nitish Kumar-KCR meeting
“It is a meeting of two daydreamers who have no standing in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Sushil Kumar told reporters. He termed the meeting as the “latest comedy show of opposition unity.”
The Telangana Chief Minister’s visit holds special significance as it comes soon after former BJP ally Nitish Kumar ditched the ruling party and joined hands with the RJD to form the government in Bihar.
KCR had earlier planned to visit both Mr. Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav in Bihar on his national tour to unite a viable non-BJP, non-Congress front.
His scheduled meeting with Mr. Kumar, then an ally of the BJP, had come as shocker as the Telangana Chief Minister has the BJP as his arch rival ahead of the elections in his state and the 2024. He has harshly criticized PM Modi and the BJP in his public speeches.
At a public meeting few days back, KCR mocked the NDA government, saying people should take a vow to make a “BJP-Mukt Bharat” in 2024. He called Prime Minister Modi “Golmal PM”, adding whatever Modi and the Centre say are “blatant lies”.
