Kejriwal & MCD – Key highlights & significance
Much of Delhi, India is governed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, a municipal corporation. Twenty million people live in the capital city, where the MCD, one of the biggest municipal organisations in the world, provides civic services. Three municipalities — MCD, New Delhi Municipal Council, and Delhi Cantonment Board, make up the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It is the only municipality in Delhi where residents elect the officials.
The meeting chaired by Kejriwal was attended by eminent officials like Delhi PWD Minister Atishi, Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, MCD Mayor Shelly Oberoi, MCD Dy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal, MCD Leader of the House, Mukesh Goyal & MCD Commissioner among other officials.
Kejriwal’s zone-wise pivotal projects – Maintaining the hygienic momentum
Kejriwal expressed his concerns over the inadequate efforts taken to maintain public properties, especially parks. Initiating zone-wise pilot projects to assess the authenticity of geo-tagging the Delhi CM would personally inspect the MCD parks across Delhi, in order to maintain the hygienic momentum.
Keeping the geo-tagging in check, Arvind Kejriwal has also instructed the officials to remodel the smaller parks by September this year & the bigger amusement parks by March 2024. Providing support to resident welfare associations (RWA) in abundance, the Delhi CM has called for active participation from RWAs for the holistic maintenance of the local parks.
Kejriwal support in creating a cleaner tomorrow
Apprising the Chief Minister with real-time updates of Delhi waste management’s procedures, the unseasoned rain spells & operationalisation delays of construction & demolition (C&D) waste plant, the Municipal Corporation Of Delhi has failed to achieve its target at Okhla. It is processing 6000 MT of waste.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pledged to remove Delhi’s rubbish mountains as one of its ten campaign pledges prior to the municipal elections held last year. Last month, the chief minister paid visits to the Okhla and Bhalswa dump sites. Okhla dump would be cleared by December 2024, Bhalswa landfill by March 2024, and Ghazipur landfill by December of the following year, according to his announcement.
In the pipeline for the future, tree pruning will also become a planned activity among the residents with no interference of the local civic body to personally come and prune the trees. Along with that, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will deploy vehicles to aid in the cleaning of smaller roads & by-lanes in Delhi. With these vehicles, there would also be approximately 250 sweeping machines provided in every yard, as stated by the Delhi government officials, to ensure maximum hygiene for the Delhi locals.
