Kejriwal under fire by CBI questions for bribe case, which was heavily criticised was Chandigarh AAP members
Chandigarh, India – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters in Chandigarh took to the streets on Sunday to protest the questioning of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a bribery case. The protesters gathered outside the CBI office in the city, raising slogans against the central government and demanding justice for their leader.
CBI Summons Kejriwal
The CBI had summoned Kejriwal to appear before them on Friday in connection with a bribery case. The case, which dates back to 2017, involves the alleged bribe of Rs 2 crore that was offered to Kejriwal’s then health minister Satyendar Jain by a Delhi-based firm in exchange for a government contract. The CBI had earlier arrested Jain’s aide and the owner of the firm, but Kejriwal was not named in the FIR.
However, the CBI reportedly wanted to question Kejriwal on his alleged involvement in the case, which the AAP has dismissed as politically motivated. The party has accused the central government of using the CBI to target opposition leaders.
“The Modi government is using the CBI as a weapon against its political opponents. They are trying to silence our voice, but we will not be cowed down. We will continue to fight for justice and expose their corruption,” said AAP leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
The protest in Chandigarh was led by AAP’s Punjab unit president Prem Garg, who accused the CBI of working at the behest of the central government. “The CBI is acting like a puppet of the Modi government. They are trying to intimidate our leader, but we will not let them succeed. We demand that the CBI stop harassing our leaders and focus on catching the real criminals,” Garg said.
The protest was also attended by several AAP leaders and workers from Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. They raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of trying to crush the opposition.
“We will not allow the BJP to turn India into a dictatorship. We will fight for our rights and expose their lies. Kejriwal is a symbol of honesty and integrity, and we stand by him,” said AAP leader and former journalist Jarnail Singh.
The protest in Chandigarh was part of a nationwide protest call given by the AAP, with similar demonstrations held in several cities across India. The party has accused the BJP of misusing the CBI to target opposition leaders, citing similar cases against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
The CBI has denied any political pressure in the case, saying that it is only following due process of law. “The CBI is an independent agency, and we are only following the law. We have summoned Kejriwal as a witness in the case, and he has cooperated with us. There is no political pressure on us,” a CBI official said.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal has alleged that he was questioned for over six hours by the CBI, who asked him irrelevant and repetitive questions. “The CBI is harassing me and my family. They are trying to frame me in false cases. But I will not be intimidated. I am ready to face any challenge,” Kejriwal tweeted after the questioning.
The AAP has called for a nationwide protest on Sunday against what it calls the Modi government’s “vendetta politics” and “political witch-hunt”. The party has demanded that the CBI stop harassing opposition leaders and focus on catching the real criminals.
