Kim Kardashian wore a black full-length couture gown at the Met Gala 2021. Her head to toe covering gown again took the audience and viewers by surprise—the black Balenciaga Haute gown along with matching face mask and train.
The American socialite is famous for making notable appearances at the Met Gala red carpet every year, with complete synchronization to each year’s theme.
Kim appeared on the red carpet all by herself, without any accessories, and was later joined by Demna Gvasalia, the designer of Balenciaga.
People assumed the male partner was Kanye West before the truth was revealed. She recently made a similar appearance for Kanye’s song listening party for Donga, E News reported.
What is a Met Gala?
Metropolitan Museum of Art’s (MoMA’s) Met Gala, sometimes referred to as the Met Ball, raises money for the museum and New York City. According to Vogue, the Met Gala raised $15 million in 2019.
It is organized every year by Anna Wintour and is popularly known as one of the most significant fashion events attended by stars, poets, influencers and industry paragons. What happens inside doesn’t get out as invitees are asked not to carry any mobile phones.

Queer representation
Dan Levy, the Schitt’s Creek star, wore a custom look inspired by LGBTQ activist David Wojnarowicz, showcasing what a gay superhero might look like in life.
Megan Rapinoe, the US Soccer team champion, carried a clutch that read: ‘in gay we trust.’ Ben Platt attended the event in Christian Cowan, a queer designer, Footwear News reported.
Other celebrities at the Met Gala
The Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made her first-ever Met Gala appearance with a political statement. Brother Vellies designed the dress she was wearing, and it was white.
Billie Eilish chose to make a Marilyn Monroe look at the red carpet, whereas Kendall Jenner decided to channel Audrey Hebron’s look in Givenchy.
Olivia Rodrigo wore a Saint Laurent designed outfit while Cara Delevingne wore a Dior outfit that read ‘peg the patriarch’. Gigi Hadid wore a white elegant Prada gown. Brooklyn Beckham made his first appearance with fiance Nicola Peltz, both in Valentino, Just Jared reported.
No Indian celebrities
Surprisingly no Indian celebrities were spotted this time at the Met Gala. Indian celebrities who have walked the red carpet before involving actors like Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone to famous personalities like Natasha Poonawalla and Isha Ambani.
The only Indian to attend this year’s Met Gala was Sudha Reddy, a billionaire, philanthropist and wife of billionaire Megha Krishna Reddy.
She was the only Indian invited to the event. India Today reported that she wore a Falguni and Shane Peacock made gown with the American flag embroidered with Swarovski crystals and took 250 hours to get ready.
While many celebrities graced the carpet with their partners, few were missed, including Kylie Jenner, who couldn’t make it to this year’s fashion festival. Kim Kardashian was not accompanied by Kanye West this time.
This year, the two have reportedly filed for a divorce, although Kim was spotted supporting his new album release in the Balenciaga couture gown.
