“Delhi Police is on standby at all borders where farmers enter the capital. Barricading has also been done at many borders for Kisan Mahapanchayat. BKU leader Rakesh Tikait, who was going to Jantar Mantar yesterday, was also intercepted by the police”
Kisan Mahapanchayat
A special vigil is being taken in the capital regarding the Kisan Mahapanchayat to be held at Jantar Mantar today to demand the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of crops. Despite not having the permission of the police, the farmers’ organisations are adamant about organising it. In view of this, Delhi Police has also barricaded the border. On Saturday night and Sunday, some groups of farmers tried to cross the border but were stopped by the police. BKU leader Rakesh Tikait going to Jantar Mantar and his supporters were also taken into custody by the police as soon as they crossed the Ghazipur border. After keeping them in custody for about two hours, they were released on the Ghazipur border in the Uttar Pradesh border.
Many farmers have entered Delhi
According to Delhi Police sources, some farmers and farmer leaders have already entered Delhi. Many farmers are staying at gurdwaras and other religious places. Although these farmers will be allowed to go to Jantar Mantar, the police say that farmers will not be allowed to gather there more than the prescribed limit. According to officials, there was no clear instruction from senior Delhi Police officials till Sunday night as the stand of the farmers was not clear.
The jam-like situation may remain near Jantar Mantar
In view of the Mahapanchayat, the police have also issued an advisory. It said that the area around Jantar Mantar may have high vehicular traffic on the roads. Traffic jams may also occur due to police bet caching at places. Farmers can come to Delhi from other borders including Tikri, Sindhu, Ghazipur, Gurugram and Jhajjar. Due to this, people have been advised to go from the border areas to Bajkar.
