Kolkata, August- 24 The controversy surrounding the murder of a freshman at Jadavpur University (JU) is still raging, as a new case has emerged regarding the unexplained passing of a nursing student at a dormitory administered by the city’s publicly funded SSKM Medical College & Hospital.
A second-year nursing student was found dead inside the washroom of a girls’ hostel in Kolkata’s Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital and Medical College. The second-year nursing student’s body was found by her friends inside a bathroom of the girls’ hostel at the medical college. According to the police, Sutapa, who belonged to North Dinajpur district, had been missing since the morning. When her friends came searching for her, they found the bathroom locked from the inside. They broke the door and found her hanging with a clothes hanger, she was not discovered in her dorm room as of this morning, according to police sources. While anxiously searching for her, boarding guests at the hostel noticed the bathroom door closing from the inside.
They contacted her several times in an attempt to get a response, but she did not pick up. When the tenants busted down the door, they discovered her hanging from the bathroom ceiling. They hurried her to the hospital’s emergency room, where she was pronounced dead.
The Kolkata Police and their investigation
Police sources claimed that the youngster was an introvert.” So far, no note has been found in her room.”A preliminary investigation revealed no evidence of wrongdoing. The body had no signs of injuries, according to a senior police officer. The Kolkata Police initiated an unnatural death complaint after her body was sent for a post-mortem. As soon as they learned about the incident, police officers and hospital administration staff hurried to the scene. Her cell phone, along with a towel, was taken by police for further investigation. The hospital administration has also notified her family members in Raiganj. Initial investigations suggested that it might be a suicide case.
The call logs on her cell phone are being checked by the investigating officers. Police are also looking into possible love-related motives for her demise. Her recent behaviour, according to some hostel residents, has been reserved. The investigating police had found the deceased student’s cellphone and a “mocha” (body drying cloth) close to her body. The mobile phone will be sent for forensic analysis to recover any vulnerable data.
Interview of other nursing staff
Many questions are still arising of mental, physical or emotional torture. The seinior staff on repeated questioning has refused to answer and said, “I am unable to speak on this issue it is my earnest request to the media to cooperate as we get further instructions from the administrators.
Another Nursing Staff Anima Mal said that they got the information of a student hanging. It is mysterious to find a body hanging like that. She added that this could not be a case of ragging but a student might be going through issues in her personal life or the pressure of studies.
