Novak Djokovic, beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4 to win the Astana Open.
It was the ninth consecutive match win for the Serb as he had won the title in Tel Aviv last week.
The Greek was playing his ninth ATP 500 final, having lost all nine times. With this defeat, the head-to-head between the two has reached 8-2 in Djoker’s favour. He has won the last 7 times against the Greek.
Tisitspas will return to the top 5 after making it to the final.Â
It was the 90th career tour-level title for Djokovic and the fourth of 2022. With this win, the 21-time Grand Slam Champion has ensured his place in another ATP Finals.
Taylor Fritz wins Rakuten Open
American top seed, Taylor Fritz defeated countryman Frances Tiafoe by 7-6(3), 7-6(2) at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships finals. With this win, Fritz became the tenth different American who has won at the ATP 500 event. Also, he became the first one since Sampras did it in 1996.
Before this match, Tiafoe was on a streak of 13 straight tiebreaker wins but Fritz didn’t give him any chance and he didn’t lose even a single point on the server creating an early lead in both the close-fought sets.
Fritz also ensured that he makes his debut in the top 10 on Monday with a live ranking of #8.
Krejcikova stuns Iga
Barbora Krejickova rallied from a set down to upset World No.1 and top seed Iga Swiatek 5-7, 7-6(4), 6-3 in a thrilling championship at the Agel Open.
Krejcikova defeated Swiatek in 3 hours and 16 minutes long match. This was her just second career defeat in 12 tour finals, and I in three years. She had to do it the hard way. Krejcikova was trailing by 5-1 in the first set. However, even though she couldn’t turn the set around, she eventually won the match.Â
This was Czech’s consecutive title having won the one in Tillin last week.
