Ukraine’s mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, extended the curfew in Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv as the city continues to receive heavy assaults by the Russian forces. Ukraine is under severe attack by the Russians for another day as Moscow’s forces press their invasion of Ukraine. The already established curfew will now be imposed from 5 pm until 8 am every day. This is to ensure better surveillance and security of the residents of Ukraine. It will increase the effectiveness of the city’s defense systems while ensuring the safety of its people.
Currently, the city is covered with gunfire, explosions, and sirens throughout the day. Previously, the curfew was imposed from 10 pm to 7 am, but amidst the increasing casualties and destruction, the timing has been revised.
After three days of continuous fighting, Ukraine is standing tall against the relentless attacks by Russia. On Saturday, the United Nations confirmed at least the death of 240 civilians. Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States of America, Oksana Markarova, claimed that Ukrainian forces had destroyed 102 Russian tanks, 14 fighter jets, 11 helicopters, 15 artillery pieces, and 536 armored vehicles. Oksana bravely stated that the country is not only defending its homes, families, democracy, and the choice to be sovereign, but it is also defending the entire Europe.
Moreover, it was reported on Saturday that since the last Thursday when people were fleeing the country in panic, for the first time, Ukrainians were seen lined up at the Ukraine-Poland border. They wanted to cross back into the country and join the forces to defend their land. However, thousands of citizens are still crossing the borders and fleeing the country, which is now giving rise to another threat of a refugee crisis.
As the conflict continues, dozens of citizens are hiding and sheltering in the underground metro stations since Russian forces have launched coordinated artillery and missile attacks on prominent points of the city. At the same time, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky informed the Ukrainians that the city could fall into the hands of Russia; instead of worrying about their lives, fighting broke on the streets of Kyiv as the Ukrainians stood up to defend their land.
