Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan opens at Rs 12 crore whereas, Aamir Khan’s film Laal Singh Chaddha witnessed a huge drop in ticket sales of about 40% on Friday.
On its second day in theatres, the official remake of Forrest Gump featuring Tom Hanks, Laal Singh Chaddha, experienced a shocking drop in attendance. On Friday, the movie brought in about 7 crore.
The movie’s domestic box office take after two days will be close to 19 crore. It had competed with Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan, which too recorded comparable box office results.
Kareena Kapoor and South star Naga Chaitanya both appear in Laal Singh Chaddha, which is Naga Chaitanya’s Bollywood debut. It was written by Atul Kulkarni and directed by Advait Chandan, best known for his work on Secret Superstar.
According to a report on Boxofficeindia.com, Friday’s box office receipts for Laal Singh Chaddha are expected to be in the range of 6.50–7 crore nett. The survey also mentioned how poorly the movie is performing in mainstream markets.
With day one receipts of 12 crore, the movie earned the third-best opening for a Bollywood picture this year. Film trade expert Taran Adarsh shared the box office figures on Twitter, writing, “#LaalSinghChaddha is alarmingly low on Day 1… The lacklustre beginning has made an already struggling industry even worse….Better at premium multiplexes but mass circuits are weak… To turn things around, needs to put up big numbers from Friday through Sunday. Thu ₹ 12 cr. #India biz. All versions.”
The Delhi Police commissioner Sanjay Arora received a complaint on Friday from a lawyer located in Delhi accusing Aamir Khan, Paramount Pictures, and other parties of “disrespecting the Indian Army and hurting Hindu emotions” in Laal Singh Chaddha.
“A mentally challenged person was permitted to enlist in the army and participate in the Kargil War, according to the movie’s creators. It is a well-known fact that only the best army personnel were sent to fight in the Kargil war, and that only soldiers who had undergone extensive training could fight; however, the movie makers purposefully portrayed the aforementioned situation in order to demoralise and discredit the Indian army” In the complaint, lawyer Vineet Jindal made a statement.
