Star Argentina Footballer and Skipper Lionel Messi has confirmed that the FIFA world cup 2022 final match on December 18 will be his last game for Argentina. Messi led Argentina crunches a 3-0 victory over Croatia in the first semi-final on Tuesday. The 35-year-old skipper scored the first crucial goal of the match in the 34th minute and helped Argentina to reach the 6th time in the final of the FIFA world cup.


Speaking to the Argentine media outlet, he said that he feels very happy to achieve this and wants to finish his world cup journey by playing his last game for the country. It is the 6th time Argentina has Qualified for the final in the history of the FIFA world cup. Argentina has won the world cup twice. It’s time Argentina gears up for their 3rd world cup trophy.

Messi in World cup so far

Messi has scored 11 goals and eight assist, which is the most goal involvement in a World Cup (since 1966). Messi scored his 16th  goal for Argentina in 2022, the most he’s achieved in any calendar year for his nation. Messi has put himself on fire in this edition of the FIFA world cup as he won 4 player of the match awards and guiding his team for this wonderful journey so far.

After featuring in XI in the semi-final, Messi equaled the record for appearing the most time in world cup matches 25 of former Germany midfielder Lothar Matthaus. Messi now has 11 goals in 25 matches.

The star footballer is playing in the FIFA world cup for 5th time and the final for the second time. This is the time he will hope to end the drought of 36 years to win his first historic world cup title in Qatar.
