Ponniyan Selvan-1 or PS-1 directed by Mani Ratnam has created a new history at the box office by crossing Rs. 230 crores in just a span of 3 days. With this speed of success, the historical drama will definitely hit the profit and blockbuster zone of the box office.
If the collection goes at this rate then Ponniyan Selvan will break all the records at the box office. The film hit the theaters on the 30th of September with a lot of fanfare.
There was already hype created for this film, in the minds of the audience. PS-1 was released in 5 languages across the globe. According to Ramesh Bala, trade analyst, Ponniyan Selvam has crossed Rs. 230 crores at the box office in just 3 days which is a huge success of any film made to date.
Ponniyan Selvam was released in all the theaters in a 2D format including IMAX. With this, Ponniyan Selvan has made marked its place in number 3 for an opening for any Indian movie in countries like the UK, Singapore, and Malaysia. In countries like USA and WW, Ponniyan Selvan, too, the film has marked its place in the 3rd position. In India, the film stands at 4th position.
Earlier it was revealed that the film was doing really great in the US market. The film has already collected USD 3 million within 3 days of its release. In comparison to RRR (which collected USD 9.5 million) is less but soon it will be creating a new record at the box office according to sources. PS- 1 is the 3rd biggest Tamil film opening. The first Tamil film opened bein Valimai (starring Ajith Kumar, collection of Rs. 36.17 crores), and the second, was Beast (collection of Rs. 26.40 crores – starring Vijay)
Mani Ratnam’s film Ponniyin Selvan part 1/ PS-1 is adapted from Kalki Krishnamurthy’s book (which consists of 5 parts) with the same name. The cast of the movie includes Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Rai Bacchan, Trisha Krishana, Shobhita Dhulipala, and other supporting roles. The film is edited by Sreekar Prasad. Choreography is done by Brinda. Credits for cinematography go to Ravi Varman.
PS-1 will draw the public towards the Colon era, the battlefield In the post-credit scenes, there was a glimpse of PS-2 shown which will be released in 2024.
