Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, announced on Tuesday that more than one hundred individuals from West Bengal had taken refuge in Assam due to the prevailing political unrest in the state. Sarma stated that the displaced people had been provided with shelter at a relief camp and expressed Assam’s readiness to provide humanitarian assistance in times of need.
While West Bengal BJP chief Suvendu Adhikari praised Sarma for providing “relief to the troubled opposition party karyakartas in the state of West Bengal”, Shashi Panja, a cabinet minister of Assam’s neighbouring state, alleged that the Assam Chief Minister was creating panic by raising a false alarm.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sharma, announced on Twitter that a total of 133 individuals who were in fear of their lives due to the violence in the state’s panchayat elections had taken refuge in a relief camp in the district of Dhubri in Assam. The Chief Minister further stated that the camp had been provided with food and medical assistance.
In his own words,“Yesterday, 133 individuals who feared for their lives due to violence in the panchayat election in West Bengal sought refuge in Dhubri district of Assam. We have provided them with shelter in a relief camp, as well as food and medical assistance,”
Adhikari, the leader of opposition in West Bengal, expressed his gratitude to Sarma and said, “On behalf of the people of West Bengal, I would like to express my gratitude to the Chief Minister of Assam, Shri. Himantabiswa Ji, for providing respite to the troubled Karyakarta community of WB, particularly those belonging to the BJP, who have repeatedly faced poll-related violence. As West Bengal is in close proximity to Assam, it is safe for them to travel with their families to Assam.”
Sarma also posted a quick reply on Adhikari’s micro-blogging account to assure her of his support in any eventuality.
Further the Assam Chief Minister added, “We hold West Bengal people in high regard as our nearest and dearest neighbours. We provided the same kind of support to West Bengal during the last assembly election. Please know that you can count on us for all kind of humanitarian assistance in times of distress.”
Trinamool Congress, Shashi Panja On Himanta Biswa
On the other hand Shashi Panja, spokesperson of the Trinamool Congress and West Bengal Minister, targeted Sarma by referring to the persons who were not included in the final draft of the National Register of Citizens for the northeastern state.
Mr. Himantabiswa should be really sick right now because of how self-righteous and self-righteous he is being! Before he starts panicking and raising false alarms, he should think about what happened to 1.9m Assamese people who were made stateless because of the NRC.
Panja in his word have tweeted“@himantabiswa must be nauseated from the dizzying heights of self-righteousness & misplaced moral superiority!
Before raising a false alarm and creating a sense of panic, he should consider the fate of the 1.9 million residents of Assam who were rendered stateless due to NRC,
