Two men, who visited a dargah often in Delhi before committing crimes were caught last week by the police. Police received information about two men on the 7th of January who would enter the police station in Timarpur, brazenly in a stolen car. A team was formed to catch the criminals. At 6 in the evening, the police noticed the suspects getting down from a van, identified as a Maruti, and were proceeding towards the Wazirabad dargah. They were apprehended and from their possession, one semi-automatic pistol and four live cartridges were recovered.
The accused were later on found to be named Gulzar Ahmad Ansari and Mohammed Tarik, who could not produce the ownership documents of the van, leading to an inquiry that confirmed that the van was stolen. They revealed in an investigation that the weapon had been purchased from one man named as Hafiz for Rs 20,000, and they used the same for committing crimes with their associates Hilal and Sanjay, identified as residents of Bhalaswa Dairy.
The accused further revealed that they indulged in snatching and motor vehicle theft as well in various parts of Delhi. On the evening of January 7, they arrived in Timarpur, with the intent to steal a vehicle using a made ‘master’ key. It was further revealed that before committing this crime or even sin as religion would call it, they both decided to bow down at the Naugaja Peer Dargah, only to be intercepted by the police with their weapons and the vehicle. The police also conducted raids on the various hideouts of the supplier of the weapons and ammunition, named Hafiz and the other associates, but currently, they are absconding.
