AURANGABAD: Two days after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) staged a big demonstration in Aurangabad, an FIR has been lodged against party head Raj Thackeray and rally organizer Rajiv Jawalikar for allegedly breaking the terms and conditions imposed by the police when authorizing the gathering.Â
Thackeray has been appointed the primary defendant in the investigation, the police said, since he reportedly made offensive comments at the gathering and “incited” his followers. Additionally, the police have given notifications to hundreds of MNS employees.Â
“The speech was provocative in nature, with the potential to disturb otherwise placid cultures. As a result, a formal complaint has been made “According to a senior official with the Aurangabad city police.
Thackeray reaffirmed at Sunday’s gathering the May 3 “deadline” for the removal of loudspeakers from state mosques. Additionally, he stated that beginning May 4, all Hindus should play the Hanuman Chalisa outside mosques if loudspeakers were not removed.
According to the Aurangabad police, they examined CCTV video and listened to the content of the “provocative speech,” which they determined was delivered “with the goal to incite disturbances.” Additionally, the police stated that they set 16 restrictions on the rally’s permit, some of which were broken.Â
Thackeray, Jawalikar, and other unknown persons were charged under Section 116 (abetting the commission of an offense by the public generally or by any number or class of persons exceeding ten)
Section 117 (abetting the commission of an offense by the public generally or by any number or class of persons exceeding ten), and Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.Â
Dilip Walse Patil, the state home minister, stated on Monday that Thackeray’s demonstration was intended to sow division in society. Additionally, the minister warned that legal action against the MNS leader will be pursued.Â
