The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards were won by BTS, BLACKPINK, and SEVENTEEN (VMAs). Check out the specifics in the article below.
Just another day in which BTS casually makes history! That’s correct. We’re talking about the MTV Video Music Awards 2022, and of course, BTS just won the moon man and our hearts. You can only imagine how thrilled the ARMY is at this turn of events.
For those who are unaware, BTS was nominated for a couple of VMA awards this year. While the septet was unable to attend the event in person, much to the chagrin of millions of fans worldwide, they did manage to win one of the most coveted awards.
BTS was nominated for Group of the Year alongside fellow K-pop group BLACKPINK, as well as City Girls, Imagine Dragons, Silk Sonic, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Maneskin, and BTS took away the moon man.
The award would have been sweet enough on its own, but did you know it is also quite iconic? BTS has officially broken the record for the most “Group of the Year” wins in VMA history, as they win the award for the fourth time in a row.
BTS thanked the Army on twitter for all their love and support.
Aside from Group of the Year, BTS was nominated for “Best K-Pop,” “Best Visual Effects” for “My Universe”, “Best Choreography” for their song “Permission to dance”, and “Best Metaverse Performance” for Minecraft, and Jungkook of BTS was nominated for the category “Song of the Summer” for his song “Left and Right” with Charlie Puth.
BTS has been active in the past year, promoting the group’s singles ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance,’ as well as their anthology album ‘Proof,’ which released in June 2022. In addition, the septet met their fans during their ‘PERMISSION TO DANCE ON STAGE’ tour, which ended in April 2022. The group will also be performing a free concert in Busan, Korea.
Another K-pop group that absolutely slayed the show this time was none other than the girl group – Blackpink. Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa walked the red carpet and performed their pre-release single Pink Venom. Taylor Swift was seen grooving in the audience during their performance. BLACKPINK made history by becoming the first female K-pop artists to perform at the MTV VMAs. Pink Venom is the band’s most recent single from their upcoming album Born Pink. The girls were named Best Metaverse Performance for their PUBG collaboration, and Lisa became the first solo artist to be named Best K-pop for here solo Lalisa.
Seventeen, a K-pop group, won their first award for Push Performance of the Year for their song “Rock With You”. The song is the title track of SEVENTEEN’s 9th mini album, ‘Attacca’.  Griff – One Night, Remi Wolf – Sexy Villain, and Nessa Barrett – I Hope Ur Miserable Until Ur Dead were also nominated in the category.
“It was a huge honour to be featured as the first K-pop artist for MTV Push, and even more so to receive the Push Performance of the Year award,” SEVENTEEN said in their video acceptance speech. “Thank you VMAs, and thank you to our fans CARATs for all your love and support,” Mingyu added.
‘BE THE SUN,’ the 13-piece act’s third world tour, is currently underway in the United States. During SEVENTEEN’s concert today, member Seungkwan also announced their MTV VMAs win, which was met with applause from the audience.
Congratulations to BTS, Seventeen and Blackpink for their VMAs win!!
