Following Russian attacks, NATO provides Ukraine with anti-missile air defense systems.Â
Weapons promised by Canada, France, the Netherlands, the UK and the USA ranging from missiles to radars have arrived from Germany on Ukrainian soil.
These weapons came as a result of the pledge made when 50 countries met at the NATO headquarters in Brussels to support Ukraine, which Kyiv praised as “historic”.
Russia has fired about 100 missiles and drones that hit Ukraine’s energy fields and civilian areas. These attacks caused a death toll of 19, and several casualties were reported.
These attacks were triggered when a key bridge that connects the Crimean peninsula to Russia was destroyed, allegedly by Ukrainian forces, according to Moscow, but was trashed by Kyiv.
The attacks resulted in severe disruptions in the supply of power and water to many Ukrainian cities and villages and resulted in the rationing of electricity.Â
The UK has decided to provide Ukraine with air defense missiles and drones, which will help them to gather intel and also provide logistical support. In addition to that, they will also provide 18 Howitzer artillery guns.
According to NATO, these weapons will help Ukraine defend its skies and strengthen its missile defense systems.
US Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, speaking after the summit in Brussels, said that they (the US) are going to provide Ukraine with whatever they need to be effective.
France has also decided to send air defence systems to Ukraine, said Emanuel Macron, the French President, to protect the country’s population from drones.
The Dutch Defense Minister, Kajsa Ollongren, said that Russian attacks can only be dealt with by providing unrelenting support to Ukraine and its people and has decided to provide them with $14.5 million worth of air-defense systems.
Canada has vowed to provide $34 million worth of air defense systems such as satellite communication systems and drone cameras.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has announced the delivery of state-of-the-art IRIS-T SLM air defense systems has arrived from Germany, which will play a strategic role in protecting Ukraine and its people in the fight against “terror”.
