Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in his first world athletics event on Sunday yesterday making him the first Indian athlete to achieve this feat.Â

The Olympic champion made history yet again by winning the gold medal at the World Athletics championship during the final event of men’s javelin throw with a stretch of 88.17 meters remaining the highest ever in the event in Budapest.Â

How did he win Gold?Â
The ace javelin champion became the first Indian to win the medal in a close contest with Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem by less than a meter at the men’s javelin throw event held in Hungary at Budapest.

It was an exciting event as Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan made his record with 87.82 meters which is considered his season’s best in his third attempt. But the audience’s heartbeat increased when Nadeem in his fourth attempt came up with a throw of 87.15 meters. But in the fifth attempt particularly, it was considered a foul throw.Â
But during the duration of this whole event, Neeraj Chopra kept his cool unlike Arshad, who in his final round seemed under pressure according to Times of India, and hurled his throw five feet behind the foul line. At last, the result was an 81.86 throw record.Â
But despite facing challenges from abled players from different countries, he still performed consistently with a record of 86.32 meters, 84.64 meters, and 87.73 meters in his third, fourth, and fifth attempts respectively.Â
Despite his first performance starting with a foul throw due to his presence of mind displayed by the player by hitting his straps in his second attempt, in the end, he won the game.Â
Besides Arshad Nadeem, another challenger was Jakub Vadlejch who stood in third place with a record of 86.67m in his fifth attempt, assigning Julian Weber from Germany in fourth place.Â

Other Players who gave a spectacular performanceÂ
Other Indian players Kishore Jena and DP Manu also gave a very spectacular performance by acquiring fifth and Sixth spot respectively.Â
Kishore Jena’s initial record was 75.70m but on the second attempt, he established his record with a throw of 82.82m. In his fourth and fifth attempts, he made a record of 80.19m and 84.77m respectively.Â
But despite a foul throw in his final attempt, he still made it to top-8.Â
Also, DP Manu’s initial record was 78.44m throw. Despite a foul in his second attempt, he acquired a record of 83.72m also making it to the top-8. But despite registering another foul, he still made it to the sixth spot.Â
Both of them finished behind Germany’s Julian Weber.Â

Neeraj Chopra’s previous record so far
The javelin player made his first appearance at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and won the gold medal in that event making him the fourth Indian after Milkha Singh (1958), Krishna Poonia (2010), and Vikas Gowda (2014) to win the athletics title of the game.Â

He became the second individual who became a gold medalist for India at the Olympics after he won the gold medal by throwing a distance of 87.58m in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.Â
Also became the first Indian victor by throwing the javelin at a distance of 89.08m at the Won Lausanne Diamond League meet in 2022.Â
