Nepal puts Amritpal Singh on the surveillance list upon the Indian Embassy’s request amid the preacher’s possible presence in the country. India-Nepal border has been on high alert for two days. Multiple reports claim that close associates and aides of the preacher have been arrested
The department of immigration in Nepal has put pro-Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh on its surveillance list following a request from the Indian Embassy. Reports from India suspected the fugitive had escaped to Nepal amidst the ongoing crackdown. The Embassy of India in Kathmandu urged the government to up its security to arrest him if he tries to flee to a third country using an Indian passport.

Nepal is on high alert following Amritpal Singh’s escape from India.
The information officer, Kamal Prasad Pandey, told the media that he received a request note along with a passport of Amritpal Singh from the Indian Embassy saying that Amritpal Singh had entered Nepal. Pandey added that the Indian embassy had requested the department put Amritpal, a separatist preacher, on the surveillance list.
Although the letter from the Indian Embassy has not been confirmed, an earlier report from the Kathmandu Post newspaper said that the Indian embassy in Kathmandu has already written a letter to the department of consular services alerting them to his presence in Nepal and requesting the agencies to act quickly to arrest the fugitive before he flees to any other country.
Citing a copy of the letter, the newspaper said that the esteemed ministry was requested to inform the department of immigration of any possible escape by Amritpal Singh, who presumably has been hiding in Nepal using an Indian passport or any fake passport under the intimation of the mission.
Countrywide securities were activated in Nepal
According to multiple sources, confidential information and details about the fugitive, along with the letter, were distributed to all the concerned agencies, from hotels to airlines. At the same time, it is being speculated that Amritpal Singh has many fake passports in his possession, according to the newspaper.
In another newspaper report, the Nepal Home Ministry has asked the security agencies to be on high alert in the area bordering India. The newspaper, My Republica, reported that the Nepal-India border has been kept on high alert for two days after the immediate request from the Indian Embassy. There could be a possibility that Amritpal Singh could enter the western part of the country from Kapilvastu; as a result, the police have stepped up their vigilance for any further developments, said the newspaper, quoting sources.
The Nepal government did not take much time and enforced the decision immediately as new photographs of Amritpal Singh along with his associate Papalpreet Singh surfaced on social media as another one of his close aides was detained under the National Security Act.
Ever since the inception of his separatist outfit, Waris Punjab De, on March 18, Amritpal has continued to evade arrest and remained untraceable.
Two photographs emerge amidst Amritpal’s escape to Nepal
Meanwhile, two new photographs of the fugitive surfaced on social media. The photos were most probably taken on March 18, the same day when Punjab police launched a crackdown against him and his outfit. In the first photo, the preacher Amritpal Singh and his associate, Papalpreet Singh, are seated on a modified motorbike. According to the Punjab police, the duo had used the bike to flee, but somehow it got punctured, and they left the bike midway, which was later recovered by the police. In the second photo, the two were holding beverage cans.
n the latest development in the ongoing case, Varinder Singh alias Fauji, Amritpal’s close associate, was arrested by the Amritsar Rural Police.
Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Harpreet Singh, on Monday threatened the Punjab government with a nationwide diplomatic campaign in India and abroad in a 24-hour ultimatum to release the Skih youths arrested during the crackdown against pro-Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh and his outfit Waris Punjab De. Giani’s motto was to let the world know how the Sikhs were being treated. He also condemned the government for activating the National Security Act during the crackdown.
