Key Highlights of the Speech delivered by PM Modi at the inaugural event
During his speech at the inaugural event, PM Modi said Bose was forgotten after Independence. He said that Bose had a vision, he was brave. He used to say, India is not a country that will forget its proud history. The history of the country is in the blood of every Indian. Also adding that Netaji’s statue at the Kartavya Path will become a source of inspiration… In the past eight years, we have taken decisions that bear the impression of Netaji’s ideals.
End of the ‘mentality of colonization’
India is now moving beyond the mentality of colonialism, PM Modi said. Renaming of the Andaman Islands after Netaji Bose also renamed Race Course Road as Lok Kalyan Marg.
Earlier, the Indian Navy also adopted a new flag of the Indian Navy to remove all symbols of the “colonial past”. Earlier, the flag contained the Saint George’s Cross. However, it now features a national emblem with the Tricolour on the upper canton (top left corner of flag). The Indian Navy adopted a symbol of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s symbol and shed the symbol of ghulaam.
PM Modi called all these alterations not limited to symbols but rather a part of the country’s foundation. “If India had walked the path shown by Netaji after independence, it would have been a different story. But India forgot its hero,” he said.
