New Releases on OTT: Movies to Watch Out For

With the theatres at half capacity, the OTT platform, the only saving grace, will launch new releases in August 2021.

With blockbuster hits like Malik, Sarpatta Parambarai and many more, in July, the OTT platforms are all set to be jam-packed with more entertainment in the eighth month of the year. Following is the list of some movies along with other new OTT releases that you should watch out for in August 2021:

Bhuj-The Pride of India (Hindi)

Set during the India-Pakistan war, 1971, the movie is about the life of an IAF Squadron leader. It revolves around how 300 ladies from a town in Gujarat helped the Indian Air Force to recreate an obliterated airbase after being bombarded by the Pakistanis. The movie is starring Ajay Devgan as Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik. Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi are also playing pivot roles.

Beckett (English)

Directed by Ferdinando Cito Filomarino, Beckett is a thriller film starring John David Washington, Boyd Holbrook, Vicky Krieps and Alicia Vikander. The film follows a vacationing American couple in Greece who falls victim to a violent chase conspiracy after an accident. This movie is another action-thriller by John David Washington after the massive success of Tenet.

Netrikann (Tamil)

Netrikann is the remake of the 2011 Korean film Blind. It is an exciting psychological thriller releasing in August, featuring Nayanthara as a blind woman. The movie also features Ajmal Ameer as a serial killer who is on a bit of a streak till his paths collide with Nayanthara’s character. Nayanthara is known for her outstanding performances in female-centric Tamil thrillers.

Maestro (Telugu)

Maestro is the Telugu remake of the 2018 Hindi dark-comedy Andhadhun. The movie is starring Nithiin in the lead. The film follows a blind man caught up in a murder investigation and makes his way out of it. While Ayushmann Khurrana did an excellent job in the original version, one can expect Nithiin to do them justice and live up to the original story.

Nine Perfect Strangers (English)

With this web series, Nicole Kidman is featuring yet another adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s eponymous book.  Nine Perfect Strangers is an 8-episode series, and its first three episodes are releasing at 5:30 PM(IST). It is about different city dwellers hit with something unexpected while resorting to a health and wellness resort to relieve stress. The series also features Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans and others.

Cruella (English)

Emma Stone plays the role of the titular character in this movie, set in the early days of Disney’s notorious villain Cruella De Vil. The film shows the transition of the main lead from a young grifter in London in the 1970s to the fashionable, raucous, and revenge-bent character we know her to be.

Vacation Friends (English)

Vacation Friends is an English movie starring John Cena, Meredith Hagner, Lil Rel Howery and Yvonne Orji. The film revolves around two pairs of couples crossing paths during a vacation. The wild team shows up uninvited to the other (straight-laced) couple’s wedding, which ensues awkwardness and chaos.

Annette (English, French)

Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard are a tortured, artistic couple directed by France’s Leo’s Carax. The glamourous couple of an opera singer and a stand-up comedian is always under the spotlight. The movie features how their life takes a turn after the birth of their specially gifted daughter Annette.
