The ‘X Factor UK’ revealed previously unseen footage of the famous One Direction boy band’s formation by judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, and Nicole Scherzinger. While many thought Simon was the genius behind the group’s pairing, the clip revealed that the Pussycat Dolls singer played a much larger role than most fans realised.
As a judge on ‘X Factor U.K’ back in 2010, the 44-year-old American singer helped Simon Cowell select solo auditionees, including Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan, for the boy band. As Nicole admitted, she never imagined that the footage that emerged recently showing her playing a major role in One Direction would ever come out.
The ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath‘ singer, who rose to fame as a member of the girl group The Pussycat Dolls before pursuing a career in musical theatre, went on to say that it’s “really awesome” that the previously unseen footage was eventually released.
Nicole revealed her reaction to fans finally learning the truth about One Direction’s formation!
During her appearance on “Sherri,” she said, “It’s really cool that it came out because what people are actually seeing is me attempting to put the band together, the way my mind was working.”
“Frankly, I never thought this footage would see the light of day,” she explained, howling with laughter. “I assumed Simon burned it.”
She went on, “I just got out of a girl group.” I know how effective and powerful a group can be. We need to join together. But I’m still waiting for my full commission! “
As shown in the video, Nicole can be seen standing around a table with fellow judges Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, moving Niall Horan’s headshot to the top of the line of photographs before insisting that Liam Payne make the cut.
Nicole responded to Simon’s suggestion that Liam compete as a soloist: “No, I don’t believe so. He would undoubtedly shine, in my opinion. He could be the lead singer. “
