Union Education Minister of India Dharmendra Pradhan, on September 09, 2021, declared the National Institutional Ranking Framework India ranking of 2021 (NIRF – 2021) at nirfindia.org.
Ranking for University, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, medical, law, Architecture, Dental, Research and Overall performance was released through a virtual event on the official website of NIRF.
This year, a new research institution category was introduced, taking the total number of categories up to 11.
The NIRF Ranking 2021 was based on the six parameters – teaching, learning and resources (TLR), research and professional practice (RP), graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI), and peer perception.
Using these mentioned parameters, Universities and Colleges were judged.
The Minister launched the NIRF for Educational Institution on September 29, 2015. Annually NIRF rankings are released to recognize the top universities, colleges and other educational institutions across India.
“The National Institutional Ranking Framework Indian rankings should not be considered as an end [by the institutes] but the beginning of the improvement of quality in higher education,” said Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in his live webinar.
In India, there are over 45,000 Degree Colleges, over 1000 universities and over 1500 top institutes.
Indian institutes registering for the NIRF ranking in 2020 increased by 20 % compared to 2019. In 2020, around in count 3,800 institutes participated in NIRF Rankings. In 2021, the number is 6000.
NIRF Ranking 2021: Top 3 institutes in Overall category
IIT Madras, for the third consecutive year, has bagged its top spot in the overall university raking.
IIT Madras kept its Rank No. 01 position in the overall category of the NIRF and the top spot for the sixth time consecutively in the Engineering Category.
IISC, Bengaluru, follows the list. The third spot was held by IIT Bombay this year. Last year the third spot was held by IIT Delhi.

NIRF Rankings: Top 3 Universities
Despite facing several intense months last year, Jamia Millia Islamia entered into the top 10 universities of the country.
This year, JMIU has improved its ranking from number 10 to number 6. JNU, which witnessed student protests last year over fee hikes, has retained its position as the second-best university in the country after IISc-Bangalore.

NIRF Ranking 2021: Top 3 Engineering
Engineering has always remained the students favourite and the most sought-after higher education in India. Even though, after knowing barely even 7% of engineering graduates from India are employable.
It makes it very important for the students to get a seat in the top engineering colleges of India to create a stronger foundation and get ample opportunities for placement after graduation.
The NIRF Ranking 2021 engineering colleges list has 9 IITs and one NIT in the top 10 list.
Apart from IIT Karnataka at Rank 10, the top 10 engineering colleges per NIRF ranking has remained the same as last year.

NIRF Ranking 2021: Top 3 Medical Colleges
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi has ranked as the best medical institute in the country, followed by PGIMER and Chandigarh Medical College, Vellore.
AIIMS Delhi bagged the top rank in NIRF 2021, with 90.69 scores, followed by PGIMER and Christian Medical College Vellore at second and third rank, respectively.

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has retained its top position in the NIRF 2021. National Law University (NLU), New Delhi is the second-best institute in the rankings, while the third position was retained by Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad.
The top three positions for the Law colleges remained similar to the previous year.
