The swearing-in event takes place a day after JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar severed relations with the BJP-led NDA and teamed up with the RJD to create a “Mahagathbandhan” (grand coalition) government. On August 10, a ceremony at Raj Bhavan saw Kumar take the oath of office as Bihar’s eighth chief minister.
Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD was sworn in as the deputy chief minister. Later, the oath will be taken by other cabinet members.
After taking the oath, Mr. Kumar told the media that he would not serve as the Chief Minister in 2024 and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should “worry” about the party’s chances in the elections of that year.
Mr. Kumar stated, “He (Mr. Modi) had assumed office in 2014, but it was uncertain if he would hold that position in 2024.
A day after Mr. Kumar severed relations with the BJP-led NDA and teamed up with the RJD to create a “Mahagathbandhan” (grand coalition) government, the low-key event was held.
According to party insiders, Tejashwi Yadav is finalizing the list of leaders who will take the oath of office as ministers in the new Cabinet, and the list will “finally be given to party president Lalu Prasad in Delhi for his approval,” according to The Hindu.
Mr. Prasad, who is ill, is now getting better in Delhi.
According to party insiders, the new cabinet will have 16 ministers, including Tejashwi Yadav, the deputy chief minister, and Tej Pratap Yadav, the oldest son of Lalu Prasad and a member of the RJD.
Other names of party leaders who will be taking an oath to serve as ministers in the new government include Alok Mehta, Lalit Yadav, Anita Devi, Kumar Sarvajit, Bhai Birendra, Surendra Ram, and Veena Singh.
Additionally, it is reported that up to 13 JD(U) leaders will swear to serve as ministers in the next Cabinet. Party leaders including Vijay Choudhary, Ashok Choudhary, Bijendra Yadav, Sanjay Jha, Upendra Kushwaha, Shrawan Kumar, and Zama Khan’s names are being bandied around as potential minister candidates.
The left-leaning Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), Communist Party of India (CPI), and CPM are probably going to provide their support to the incoming administration.
An influential RJD leader warned, “They might not be a part of the government.”
Mahagathbandhan leaders are currently holding frantic meetings at the homes of their respective party leaders in Patna to finalise the list of potential ministers from each quota.
Nitish Kumar resignation
Rajiv Ranjan Singh, head of the JD(U), said the party won’t apply to join the Union Ministry once more in the wake of Mr. Singh’s resignation.
Nitish Kumar hands in his resignation as chief minister of Bihar on August 9. With the backing of 164 MLAs from seven parties, including the opposition RJD, he advances his claim to lead the next administration. All of his party’s MPs, MLAs, Council members, and leaders, according to him, had voiced a wish to sever connections with the BJP, which he welcomed right away.
