People residing near the demolished Supertech towers complained to the Noida authority over the slow removal of the debris and asked them to take measures to speed up the process.
New Delhi: Upset over the delay in clearing the debris of the demolished Supertech twin towers in Noida, residents of adjacent Emerald Court wrote to the Noida authority demanding necessary steps to speed up the process. The residents complained that the large amount of broken concrete parts will worsen the air quality in the area when winter falls and it can also lead to difficulties, especially for older people.
Following a Supreme Court order, the 32-storey twin towers, Apex and Ceyane, were brought down on August 28 using a controlled blast method. The demolition created about 36000 cubic metres of debris. The residents allege only a small portion was cleared so far and the removal halted suddenly. The concrete parts need to be broken into smaller pellets at the site before being transported out.
“We saw trucks going out of the site regularly but very little movement has been seen in the past few days. If the debris is not removed now, air pollution woes will grip residents with the onset of winter. We have written to the authority to get the work expedited,” the Emerald Court residents association president UBS Teotia told reporters.
The waste removal process Is already contributing to a large amount of dust in the area. It is unlikely that the company will complete it before the deadline. If that happens, the winter pollution in this area will be unbearable and will become hazardous for people here, another resident opined.
