The low-pressure area near the South Andaman Sea will strengthen into a cyclone known as “Asani“. The cyclone “Asani,” which is now cruising along Odisha’s coastline, will wreak havoc on a few districts in the state. It will bring moderate to heavy rain, particularly in Odisha’s coastal districts of Puri, Ganjam, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Khordha.
Predicted Path and Gale speed
The cyclonic storm is expected to stay over the Bay of Bengal Sea and travel parallel to Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. On May 9, the Bay of Bengal will experience gusts of 85 km/hr. On May 10, heavy rain of 7-11 cm is expected in two or three districts of Puri, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Other districts, including Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Ganjam, will see light to heavy rain on May 11.
As the central deep depression (low-pressure region) formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal sea moves northwest, the gale speed will increase to 100 km/hr from 85 km/hr over the northwest, east-central, and west-central parts of the Bay of Bengal.
The recurve of Cyclone
The cyclonic storm will be centred over 970 km southeast of Visakhpatnam, 450 km west-northwest of Nicobar islands, and 1030 km south-southeast of Odisha (Puri). On 10-11 May, this cyclonic storm will create a landfall between Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, and Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
“The cyclone will recurve north-northeast and will move forward to the northwest Bay of Bengal”

Safety measures
Fishermen have been urged not to rove around the middle Bay of Bengal for safety reasons, particularly on May 10 and 11. Fishermen who are currently at sea are asked to return by the morning of May 10th. Before lowering the alert level, the Indian Meteorological Department would conduct a thorough investigation of the atmospheric system.
