Brain.Space, an Israeli firm will test its equipment during a SpaceX shuttle flight to the International Space Station.
Three astronauts will utilise a customised electroencephalogram (EEG)-enabled helmet created by Brain.Space on the planned private spaceflight firm Axiom Space’s mission to the International Space Station, the company announced on Monday.
Four astronauts will embark on the 10-day journey, which will be the first private excursion to the space station. “We know that the microgravity environment affects the body’s physiological signs. So, it’ll most likely affect the brain, which we’ll keep an eye on.”Brain.Space says.
Three of the four astronauts, including Israeli Eytan Stibbe, will wear the helmet for 20 minutes each day, doing a variety of duties as data is sent to a laptop on the space station.Yair Levy, the CEO of Space, told Reuters.
In space, data on heart rate, skin resistance, muscle mass, and other parameters has been collected continually, but not on brain activity, he said. A “visual oddball” challenge is efficient in detecting aberrant brain dynamics, according to the company.
Similar experiments utilising these activities have been done on Earth and Brain.Space will compare EEG data from Earth and space following the expedition to discover whether there are any variations in brain activity.
It stated that such tests are necessary because long-term space exploration and “off-world habitation” are now possible.
