Congress has been witnessing a resignation spree from its young and famous leaders. It turns out the ones who resigned from Congress, are now serving as MPs and ministers from the parties they joined.Â
Jaiveer Shergill, 39, the prominent face of Congress has recently resigned from the party. The counterargument behind this resignation is problematic decision-making. The decision-making is influenced by ‘certain-coterie’. The issue has been highlighted by several party leaders. The issue has been prevailing for a long time. Shergill hasn’t made any remarks on the scenario as of now.Â
Resignation Spree
The following leaders have quit the Congress party in recent years.
- Jyotiraditya Scindia
He helped Congress to return to power in Madhya Pradesh in 2018. But because of fights over the party leadership in the state, he resigned after 18 years in March 2020. Following his resignation, 20 more MLAs who were loyal to Scindia resigned due to which Kamal Nath’s government failed.Â
Later he joined BJP and became a member of the Rajya Sabha. After the cabinet reshuffle in 2021, he became a member of the PM’s Cabinet. He was given the position of Civil Aviation Minister. A position which was held from 1991-1993 by his father and late Congress minister Madhavrao Scindia.

He was a prominent leader in congress. Jitin started his political career with the Youth congress. He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2004. He was appointed in 2021 as in charge of the West Bengal Assembly elections. However, they tasted defeat with humiliation in West Bengal. In June 2021, he joined Yogi Adityanath’s Cabinet.Â
- Hardik PatelÂ
He kick started his career with the Patidar quota protests in 2015. Hardik was expected to become the face of Gujarat politics. He joined Congress in the year 2019 ahead of the Lok Sabha elections but failed to make any difference in the conditions of the party. However, during that election, all the seats were contested by BJP.
He later shook hands with BJP in June 2022. He stated that Congress ignored the issues of the people and the top leaders sidelined the people’s issues.Â
- Sushmita DevÂ
National president of Congress’ women’s wing. She was one of the prominent faces in Assam. Later in 2021, she joined Mamta Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. She was then made a member of the Rajya Sabha.Â
