Pakistan Opposition party Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) Leader Shehbaz Sharif asked the postponement of the local government election in Balochistan in view of the political position
Shehbaz Sharif, the president of Pakistan’s opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has urged that the local government elections in Balochistan be postponed due to the country’s political crisis, according to local reports.
According to ARY News, Sharif has asked the Pakistani Election Commission to postpone the local government election in Balochistan because the province’s officials are engaged in Islamabad.
In particular, the ECP has set May 29 as the date for local government elections in Balochistan districts. According to the reports of ARY News, the Commission decided not to hold elections in the Balochistan districts of Quetta and Lasbela due to new constituency delimitations.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Supreme Court has ordered the National Assembly to hold a no-confidence vote on Saturday in Islamabad.
The court overturned all further actions taken after the no-confidence vote was rejected and reinstated the National Assembly.
It further stated that the Prime Minister and federal ministers, state ministers, advisers, and others had been reinstated to their positions as of April 3.
The Speaker is required to summon and hold a sitting of the Assembly in the current Session, and shall do so immediately and in any case not later than 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, to conduct the House’s business in accordance with the Orders of the Day issued for April 3, and in accordance with Article 95 of the Constitution read with Rule 37 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly Rules, 2007 (“Rule 37”). The Supreme Court verdict said.
After claims of a “foreign conspiracy” to remove Imran Khan’s administration were made in the House on April 3, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri rejected the no-confidence vote against the government on constitutional grounds.
Imran Khan said shortly after in a speech to the nation that he had suggested to President Arif Alvi that the National Assembly be dissolved and new elections be held.
