NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi responded to All India Majilis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi’s ‘bride’ statement against the party’s post-election coalition in Maharashtra by stating that his “obsession with brides continues.”
Owaisi stated during a rally in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, on Saturday that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders were asked to vote for AIMIM in the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections in order to prevent Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from gaining power. However, following the election, the NCP “married” Uddhav Thackeray’s party.
“I do not know which of the three parties is the bride,” he stated. Chaturvedi took to Twitter in response to Owaisi’s remark and stated, “Asaduddin Owaisi’s fascination with brides continues, first with the Mughal wives and now with Bhiwandi.”
The Shiv Sena leader claimed that the Hyderabad MP was “absent when apps were targeting women,” an apparent reference to the ‘Bulli Bai’ and ‘Sulli Deals’ applications, which auctioned Muslim women in the virtual sphere, adding that his attitude toward women is “not very different from BJP.”
“I reiterate, he was absent when apps targeted women and now continues this obsession with women as brides alone, similar to the BJP’s attitude toward women,” Chaturvedi added. In Bhwandi, Owaisi addressed the ongoing temple-mosque dispute and asserted that ‘Dravidians and Adivasis’ are the true owners of India.
This India does not belong to me, Uddhav Thackeray, Modi, or Shah. If anyone owns India, it is the Dravidians and the Adivasis. People had arrived from four locations, but the BJP is only interested in Mughals, he claimed.
The AIMIM president further claimed that if anyone comes out against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, or Yogi Adityanath, they will face severe punishment. However, no legal action is taken when someone speaks against our religion.
