The new Goods and Services Tax (GST) is quite disappointing for food lovers, especially those who love milk products, guess why? Okay so,The packaged food like flour, milk, curd and paneer have been brought under the 5 percent slab. The rates were revised during the two-day GST council’s 47th meeting held last month in Chandigarh and they came into effect on Monday, July 18. It was decided in the meeting, headed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, that packed foods like flour, milk, curd and paneer and unpacked ones, including rice and wheat when packed, will be brought under the 5 percent slab. Solar water heaters, leather products and hotels charging Rs 1,000 or less per day for a stay will come under the 12 percent slab.
Needless to say, the new GST left people sulking. Food lovers get disappointed because all the cheese tasty dishes will be so high in the price than now at restaurants. According to the tweet, Panner will invite a GST of 5%, followed by 12% on Butter, and 5% on Masala. Mocking the rate, a question was asked to calculate the GST on ‘Paneer Butter Masala’. The Congress on Wednesday issued a statement slamming the government for the 5% GST and said the decision was not unanimous and there was no discussion with the state finance ministers. “Why should not the poorer consumers aspire to buy pre-packaged and labelled goods? The Modi government is penalising aspiration and a desire to buy more hygienically packed goods,” the Congress said. It also asked whether there was any demand from producers and sellers of these products to impose a GST.
