On Thursday, TMC suspends and relieves Partha Chatterjee from all the ministerial position and responsibilities of the party after was taken under custody for the West Bengal School Service Commission recruitment scam.
The State government declared that Mr. Chatterjee has been taken off from all the positions and relieved from his duties of Minister in-charge of four departments with immediate effect. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that there will be a reshuffle in Cabinet to allot the portfolios to others, as Partha Chatterjee loses his place.
The departments under Partha Chatterjee included, Industries, Commerce and Parliamentary Affairs.
The TMC Congress held a meeting, where they removed Partha Chatterjee from the post of Secretary General and National vice-president.
The TMC congress leader, Mamata Banerjee faced a huge pressure after the arrest of Mr. Chatterjee. After Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Mr. Abhishek Banerjee, the 69-years-old man, Mr. Chatterjee was one of the strongest pillars of the party.
Senior leaders, including TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, demanded for quick action by TMC, against Mr. Chatterjee. After the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid and seizure of cash from Partha’s house, the TMC Congress have started building distance from him.
On Wednesday, July 27, an amount of Rs. 30 crores approximately, was recovered from Ms. Arpita Mukherjee’s residence at Belgharia. This was for the second time. The first search at Ms. Mukherjee’s residence at Tollyguange revealed Rs. 21.90 crores. This money reveal from both of her residence led to her arrest. So far, the total amount recovered including her jewelries and money from both of her residence has amounted to Rs. 50 crores. This has been the largest and greatest seizure of cash which took place in Kolkata for the very first time.
TMC General Secretary, Mr. Abhishek Banerjee said, “All the members of the disciplinary committee unanimously decided that he (Mr. Partha Chatterjee) should be suspended from the party pending investigation”. He also added that everyone wants for a proper investigation to take place. Everyone is eager to know what is the source of such a huge amount of money. The circumstantial evidences of TMC doubting on Mr. Chatterjee was also added benefit for the people of the state to act against Partha Chatterjee.
The TMC leader, Mamata Banerjee said that it is Partha Chatterjee’s responsibility to prove that the money recovered was not from any proceeds of crime.
Mr. Banerjee said suppositionally that if Partha Chatterjee joins BJP few months or years later then he will be recognized clean of all cases. He mentioned that any wrongdoing by any of the members of the TMC Congress will be undertaken even if it counts on the secretary general of the party.
Mr. Chatterjee and Ms. Mukherjee were arrested by ED, after the first raid and seizure of cash on July, 23. They have been taken under the custody till August 3 in connection with the School Service Commision recruitment scam where jobs were given on monetary deal. He was the Minister of Education Department from 2014 to 2021.
The raid was conducted on different locations, especially at Ms. Mukherjee’s residence, by the Enforcement Directorate. There were protests organized by the BJP and Left parties against the recruitment scam. Mr. Banerjee also called all the protesting job seekers who threw light on the recruitment scam and appealed to the Calcutta High Court to look into the matter. The high court has instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation to investigate the scenario and the Enforcement Directorate has taken necessary steps to look into the aspect of money laundering scam that has rose high anxiety nationwide.
