Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Janssen’s coronavirus vaccines are already approved in Australia. Australia has joined the list of countries that have approved India-made Covishield for international travellers, significantly boosting India’s mission to promote indigenous Covid-19 vaccines.
“The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has advised that the China-made Sinovac and India-made Covishield vaccines would be considered ‘recognised vaccines’ when determining whether an incoming international traveller has been appropriately vaccinated,” Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said during an online briefing with Indian media.
The recognition of these vaccines will remove a significant barrier for international students seeking educational opportunities in Australia.
Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Janssen coronavirus vaccines are already approved in Australia. Morrison announced on Friday that his country would reopen its borders to international travel and relax border restrictions.
According to ABC News, the Prime Minister stated that the international border would reopen in October for states with 80% vaccination rates, beginning with New South Wales.
According to the new rule, fully-vaccinated Australians and permanent residents arriving in New South Wales can now be quarantined at home for a week rather than paying thousands of dollars to be quarantined in hotels for 14 days.
“Commercial flights out of Australia for vaccinated Australians will resume.” According to an ABC News report, unless they are under the age of 12 or are medically exempt, travellers must be fully vaccinated with an approved vaccine before returning home.
On the other hand, unvaccinated travellers will be required to stay in hotels for a fortnight while the Australian government works with states to lift travel restrictions for vaccinated travellers.
