PM Modi suggested people participate in a social media profile-picture drive between August 2 and August 15. The Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign is going to be run ahead of Independence Day this year under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday recommended using “tiranga” as the profile picture on social media profiles between August 2 and August 15. Hence, he urged people to enthusiastically partake in social media profile picture drives.
On a radio broadcast of “Mann Ki Baat”, he flagged a movement called “Har Ghar Tiranga(flag in every house)”. The campaign is to be observed ahead of Independence Day from August 13 to 15.
“Let us further this movement by hosting the National Flag at our homes,” he asserted.
The movement is to be kick-started as our country (India) is celebrating its 75th Anniversary of Independence this year.
PM Modi: August 2 Speciality
PM Modi asserted that he picked August 2 as the date that marks the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya, the designer of our national flag.
Brief History of our National Flag
Pingali Venkayya, the designer of our national flag, presented an initial design to Mahatma Gandhi in 1921. The design was a bit different from the actual design we have today. However, it served as the final base on which our flag would be designed in the future.
His design had three colors, as is prevalent now. However, instead of “chakra” at the center, it has “charkha.” Here, Charkha represented self-reliance.
Modi also called out other names such as “Madam Cama”, whose role was too significant in “giving shape to the national flag” of today. Her original name was Bhikaji Rustom Cama.
Her national flag version from 1907 also had three colors, including several cultural and religious symbols. At the centre was ‘Vande Matram’.
Har Ghar Tiranga Drive PM Modi
For the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, there’s no restriction on the size, material, or timing of the national flag.
All sizes (big or small), all kinds of materials used for making the flag-polyester, cotton, wool, silk, and khadi bunting material can be used. Unlike earlier, when machine-made and polyester flags were not allowed.
Timings were made flexible, which was initially restricted and permitted to be flown only from Sunrise to Sunset.
The drive will be observed from August 13 to August 15.
The three-day drive is believed to unfurl over 20 crore national flags on the top of houses, according to an official statement.
On his Mann Ki Baat radio programme, he announced different ways to celebrate this year’s Independence Day. This occupied a major topic of discussion throughout the entire program.
“When India completes 75 years of independence, all of us are going to witness a glorious and historic moment,” he said.
He asserted that the greatest message of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is that everyone should follow their duties with full dedication and commitment. Adding to that, the next twenty-five years are Kartavya Kaal, a period of duty for every countryman.
Other Topics Discussed
Other topics like the subject of healthcare, especially Ayurveda, Indian Virtual Herbarium, schemes of government, and fairs of several cultures are mentioned in the radio broadcast.
He also congratulated the sportspeople who became victorious in July and recently held the Commonwealth Games.
Students of classes 10 and 12 were also called upon by PM Modi. He congratulated all those who were able to excel in their results because of their perseverance and diligence.
“ I congratulate all those students who have achieved success through their hard work and dedication,” he said.
