On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a public rally in Kannauj for the third phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Comparing UP to Gujarat, he said that there used to be similar riots in Gujarat once upon a time, but like in Gujarat, Yogiji’s government has stopped the riots.
He appealed to the voters to not allow such hooliganism to flourish again by choosing history sheeters candidates and contesting from jail. PM Modi asserted that even this time, BJP would win the election. The only question is by how much. He said,
“Ayegi to BJP hi, ayenge to Yogi hi.”
He claimed that the first phase of elections has confirmed that BJP will come to power again and took a dig at opposition parties by saying, “After the first round of voting in UP dynasts is sleepless and unable to dream.”
PM Modi said voters should reject those parties that work only for their families. “The family-oriented parties have changed the spirit of democracy. They have made it rule of the family, for the family, by the family.
The perfume industry of Kannauj was witness to the politics of the extreme family members,” PM Modi said, referring to the haul of cash recovered from the perfume trader Piyush Jain in December last year.
“These dynastic parties have maligned Kannauj perfume trade by associating it with corruption,” he said. PM Modi stressed that the BJP government has tried to make the Kannauj perfume industry international.
“Earlier, the districts were identified by the mafias. Adityanath changed that. These districts now are known by the products they produce under the ‘One-District-One-Product’ scheme,” he added. He claimed that UP has dramatically benefited from the double engine government (BJP at state, BJP at center).
Lakhs of poor women could get free gas connections, lakhs of patients got free treatment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, and lakhs of farmer families benefited PM Kisan Samman Nidhi because of the double engine government in UP.
The UP state could top provide houses to the poor, decades-old irrigation projects were completed, and work on Har Ghar Jal Yojna was finished because of the double engine government.
Kannuaj goes into the third phase of election polls on February 20 and 15 other districts, namely Kasganj, Etah, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Etawah, Hathras, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur, and Kanpur Nagar.
