PM Narendra Modi opened the Deogarh airport and AIIMS inpatient service on July 12, 2022. Deoghar, Jharkhand, is a spiritual town because of Baba Baidyanath Dham, Lord Shiva’s sanctum. During Sawan, lakhs of devotees attend the largest month-long religious celebration. Before July 12, it was only accessible by road or rail.
Hemant Soren and Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated Deogarh airport and AIIIMS on Tuesday. Jharkhand is now on the air traffic map. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for further development worth Rs. 16,800 crores.

Beena Kedia, one of the 66 passengers who boarded the plane to Deogarh, said, “I live in Delhi and my in-laws are from Bhagalpur (Bihar). I am thrilled that I managed to board the first flight to Deogath and will offer prayers at the Baidyanath Dham, “Â
Munnam Sanjay and his wife, who also took the flight, said, “Our dreams have come true.” This is a historical day. My wife and I are happy to be part of this historical journey. It felt magical to reach Deoghar within an hour (from Kolkata), “Â
Deoghar airport will improve the mobility of several districts in Jharkhand. It will also help daily travelers from Bihar’s Jamui, Banka, and Bhagalpur. West Bengal will also benefit. The airport is expected to have more flights than Durgapur airport.Â
region. ” PM Narendra Modi said, “I am confident that the new Deo airport in Deoghar will be a game-changer for the entire region.” It will give immense impetus to tourism and boost growth. I urge you all to visit Deoghar in the days to come.Â
Heman Soren, CM of Jharkhand, said that the dream came true on Tuesday, which was dreamt decades back. He also added that this would speed up the state’s growth and development.Â
Alok Malik’s Statement
Alok Malik, president of the Deogarh Chamber of Commerce, said the economy depends on Baidyanath Dham. The airport would help wealthy devotees reach Deoghar. Footfall would increase, and businesses would benefit indirectly. “Adani’s power project is in Godda,” he added.
The airport will help big businesses like Adani and attract more tourists. This means the real estate and hospitality industries will boom. Deoghar said AIIMS was short-staffed. Now doctors would flock here.
The opening of AIIMS in Deoghar will help patients from Santhal Parganas, Kolkata, and Bihar who have to travel for medical care. This made healthcare unaffordable and caused delays.
Dr. Saurabh Varshney said that Jharkhand is a backward state in terms of medical facilities. Santhal Pargana is backward even in Jharkhand. Deoghar, 250 km away, had no secondary or tertiary care. Patients went to Kolkata, Ranchi, or Delhi. AIIMS Deoghar’s OPD will open in August 2021. PM Modi started with 250 indoor beds. On time, quality, affordable services will be provided in West Bengal and eastern Bihar.
AIIMS plans to have 750 beds and full hospitality by 2024. Dr. Varshney said 80% of AIIMS patients since August 2013 are poor.
