Officials released a statement saying that the Haryana Police had filed a charge against the truck driver involved in the tragedy that killed Punjabi actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu.Â
The 37-year-old actor died Tuesday evening when his SUV collided with a truck on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal road in Sonipat district. Singer was accused of being a key conspirator in the Red Fort riots on Republic Day last year.Â
He was heading from Delhi to Punjab when the event occurred near in Kharkhoda, around 25 kilometers from the Singhu border, which was the epicenter of farmers’ protests against farm restrictions last year.Â
A case has been registered against the truck driver on the allegation of Deep Sidhu’s brother Mandeep for alleged reckless and irresponsible driving, according to police.Â
The offender has been recognised, according to officials, and will be detained soon.Â
Meanwhile, after a post-mortem at the civil hospital here, Deep Sidhu’s body was handed over here to his relatives. The entire procedure was recorded on video. At the evening, the body was incinerated in a Ludhiana village in Punjab.Â
At the Delhi boundaries, Sidhu took part in the farmers’ protest against Centre’s three farm legislation.Â
On February 9, 2021, he was detained in association with the Red Fort riots on Republic Day during a farmers’ tractor march protesting the Centre’s three agricultural regulations.Â
He spent more than two months in jail before being freed on bond.Â
The actor, who was born in Punjab’s Muktsar region, was said to be present at the Red Fort whenever a religious flag and a farmer flag were placed on the ancient monument’s flagpole.Â
After widespread condemnation, Sidhu defended the protesters’ actions, claiming that they was accused of false allegations the ‘Nishan Sahib’ as a symbolic protest.singer.Â
All gurdwara complexes have the ‘Nishan Sahib,’ a Sikh religious symbol.Â
Farm associations accused Sidhu of trying to discredit their activism at the time, calling him a “traitor.” He had criticized farm leaders for allegedly propagating anti-farmer misinformation and hostility.Â
