Ponniyin Selvan To Become First Tamil Flim To Release In IMAX

Imax, a motion picture film format and projection standard, is hardly used in mainstream movies because IMAX cameras are difficult to operate and are expensive. Mani Ratnam’s (PS-I) has now joined this list and has eventually become the first Tamil movie to get an IMAX release in theaters. The film’s scheduled to release on September 30, 2022.

A period drama based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s fictional novel on real-life Chola emperors, Ponniyin Selvan will be in two parts. PS-I will see Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, and Karthi in the lead.

Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ to be released

Ponniyin Selvan I is the story of Arul Mozhivarman (Jayam Ravi) and his ascent to the throne of the Chola kingdom against a coup. However, the story will be from the point of view of Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan (Karthi), a messenger of Aditya Karikalan (Vikram), who travels through the southern kingdoms to pass on the messages between the Cholas.

Writer Jeyamohan has written the dialogues for the film, and it has Ravi Varman cranking the camera.

The scale of the movie

Considering the film has been made on an impressive scale and scope, while also featuring massive war sequences, the announcement of an IMAX release will add to the excitement for fans. Ponniyin Selvan: I will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam languages and has the Mani Ratnam-A. R. Rahman combo power the film with their collaboration. The first single from the film ‘Ponni Nadhi’ was released recently and eventually became a chart-buster in no time.
