The modern-day adaptation of Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan’s Ramayana, Adipurush, will now be released on Tuesday, January 12, 2024, the producers revealed in a social media post. The long-awaited mythological film was supposed to be released in August 2022.
However, fans have to wait till January next year to see the big-budget giant movie in the theatres. Om Raut, who would direct the film, shared the new release date with fans in an Instagram post. Adipurush will be distributed worldwide in 3D.
In an interview with Variety, Raut detailed his vision for the upcoming film and how Telugu star Prab got involved in his movie, making it a pan-India project. Raut said he only shared three scene descriptions, which impressed the actor and invited him to an in-person meeting.
Raut flew from Mumbai to Hyderabad, and Prabhas agreed to do the film. The expected budget of the film is to be Rs 400 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films. In the film, Prabhas’ character is not called Rama; he is Raghav, another name of Rama Sita, played by Kriti Sanon, is called Janaki.
At the same time, Saif Ali Khan’s Ravana is Lankesh, also derived from their Ramayana name Adipurush which means is “man first”, but here the interpretation is “best man”. Raut shared more details about Adipurush: “Adipurush was set 7000 years ago, and all the ‘touches’ are the same as in the Ramayana but with modern storytelling techniques.
Adipurush’s graphics of the film is rumored to be grander than that of the Baahubali series with Prabhas. Therefore, expectations are high. Adipurush had the first hiccups. It was also postponed several times due to a pandemic. Many of Prabha’s films are focused on post-production, resulting in delays.
Besides Adipurush, Prabhas will appear in the next movie Radhe Shyam with Pooja Hegde. It will be released on March 11. He will also appear with Shruti Haasan in the Prasant Neil’s Salar and the Sandeep Lady Vangus Spirit. He would collaborate with Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan on Nag Ashwin’s directorial project K.
