ALL ABOUT THE PRESIDENTāS SPEECH
In her opening speech at the inaugural of the new complex of Jharkhand High Court in Ranchi, the President said, āMany a times the Supreme Court or High Courts deliver justice to the people in need. However, the justice delivered to the victim even if attained after 5-10 years of struggle, soon diminishes its own value when it cannot be implemented in practice, which in turns keeps the litigants unhappy. Thus, the fruits of their struggle and money in the courts go in vainā.
However, she mentioned that presently the government and judiciary, although might be held responsible but are unaware of any measures that can be taken up to prevent such misfortune of litigants. She also underlined the importance of language in gaining access to justice, switching from English to Hindi throughout her own address.
Many cases are heard in high courts before being heard by the Supreme Court, and those who receive positive decisions rejoice, knowing that even though there was a delay, they were not left in the dark,” she explained. However, their delight is fleeting since they do not receive the bliss (true justice) for which they have wasted so much time and money and spent sleepless nights waiting. They claim that despite winning the case, they did not receive justice.”
The event also witnessed a speech from the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud who spoke about securing social justice by all means as envisioned by our Constitution. Lastly, Murmu further stated that expensive legal procedures frequently keep justice out of reach of ordinary people.
