India experienced Prime Minister‘s 92th Mann ki Baat on August 28, 2020 (Sunday), via a Radio programme which was broadcasted on All India Radio at 11:00 am. An official statement noted that Akashvani will broadcast ‘Mann ki Baat’ in regional languages immediately after the Hindi broadcast.
The PM addressed the ‘collective might of the country’ witnessed on Independence day.
The unity which Indians showcased amidst the gigantic celebration of Amrit Mahotsav was exceptional. He discussed the production of millets and lauded the digital India Initiative. The meritorious endeavours encircling the construction of Amrit Sarovar were also discussed.
Mann ki Baat, a source to boost India’s Millets Mass Movement
Another highlight was the revelation of the fact that more than 70 countries supported India’s proposal as the United Nation declared 2024 ad the international year of Millets. Millets have been compartmentalised as a superfood. A lot of efforts are undertaken to promote millet in the country.
They have levelled up their concentration in terms of research and innovation. Adding to it, FPOs have been encouraged to augment production.
Being the largest producer of millet, the responsibility lies on the shoulders of India to make this mass movement a success. This can transpire only by circulating the mass movement and boosting awareness among the people.
The dialogue also touched on the subject of Digital India which boosted the business of entrepreneurs across the country. “I am very happy to see startups today are making food products from millets including millet dosa, energy bars and various snacks,” PM said.
The war with Malnutrition
The crisis of Malnutrition was also touched upon. The PM encouraged everyone to take part in the obliteration of Malnutrition. ‘Jal Jeevan’ Mission has, regardless, paved the way and proved to be a reasonable measure toward the same.
Project Sampoorna operating in the Bongai village of Assam also works towards the eradication of Malnutrition.
“The purpose of this project is to fight against malnutrition and the method too is very unique. Under this, the mother of a healthy child from an Anganwadi centre meets the mother of a malnourished child every week and discusses all nutrition-related information. That is, one mother becomes a friend of another mother, helps her, and teaches her.”
“With the help of this project in this region, in one-year malnutrition has been eradicated in more than 90 per cent children,” Modi said.
He also mentioned the ‘Mera Bacha Campaign’ being implemented in the Datia district of Madhya Pradesh. He spoke about how bhajan-kirtans were being used to curb malnutrition in the state. Several states like Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Assam have come up with various initiatives to deal with this evil.
PM Modi also talked about the intelligent initiatives adopted in the Giridih District of Jharkhand. One being the game of Snakes & Ladder. The game is being utilised to teach children about good and bad habits in an innovative and creative way. He announced that “Poshan Mah” or nutrition month would be celebrated between September 1- 30. The month would be dedicated entirely to a big campaign about Nutrition.
The PM also highlighted the significance of ‘Swaraj: the story of unheard heroes and heroines’ who took part in the freedom movement. He announced that it’ll be telecasted on Doordarshan for 75 weeks (every Sunday, 9 PM). Following this, he urged everyone to watch the movie.
The light was put on Prime Minister Jan Dhan’s account which has become the key to the economic empowerment of the poor. 46.30 crore accounts were outspread in the last 8 years under the Jan Dhan Yojana campaign.
Modi also wished the citizens for the upcoming festive season that includes festivals of different cultures across the country. He also congratulated everyone on the eve of National Sports Day which is celebrated on August 29, in honour of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
