Ryan Condal, the producer of ‘House of the Dragon’ hinted details about what to expect in season 2 of the television series. The production of ‘House of the Dragon’ season 2 has begun.
In Deadline’s Contender Television, House of the Dragon’s producer Ryan Condal said that he is eager to continue where they left off. In the Contenders, Ryan Condal and Paddy Considine were discussing the first season of House of the Dragons and the details of the second season.
At this point, they may settle into the more conventional storytelling and Game of Thrones rhythms. George [R.R. Martin], who is the author and executive producer of ‘The Song of Ice and Fire franchise, and Condal have always discussed this specific story as being a Shakespearean or Greek tragedy. A house pulling itself apart from within is a recurring theme in this series. Since Viserys is no longer in charge of keeping everything under control and all the pieces have been placed on the board, Condal is eager to tell the next story.
Viserys’ actions affected all previous generations up until the period of Game of Thrones.
According to Condal, the true key was to highlight the generational divide that started with Viserys’ generation. As Rhaenyra and Alicent grew up, matured, and had their children, Viserys and Otto Hightower left their legacies to them. Their children inherit this savage rivalry and fight for the throne. They had to finish the three-generational plot in one season to move on to the “Dance of the Dragons.”
Considine on his character ‘Viserys’
Considine won’t be back for Season 2 because Viserys (Considine) passed away in Episode 8. Considine acknowledged that he envied his co-stars for being able to return to work, but he is happy that Condal did not try to extend Viserys’ time on the show.
The ruler of House Targaryen was Viserys. Alicent (Olivia Cooke), his wife, is attempting to place their son Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) on the throne that Viserys had appointed his daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) before he passed away.
Considine said that he was relieved that Viserys wasn’t dragged outside. The fact that it was split up into eight episodes simply strengthened his storyline.
In the show’s pilot, that arc got started. Aemma, Viserys’ first wife, passed away during giving birth (Sian Brooke). Viserys insisted she have a difficult birth to have a male successor, who also dies.
According to Considine, Aemma passed away while attempting to save this child. That is something Viserys carries with him throughout his narrative. He is not the one pleading for healing when he is disintegrating, rotting, and lacking an eye. Everyone else is, but he seems to have accepted it in a big way. For a man with a heart like that, the weight of the crown was too much, Considine observes.
