On Wednesday, the Chief-Minster of Punjab and Congress leader Chiranjit Singh Channi visited the Ravidas Temple in Varanasi. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas.
According to a news portal, Channi visited the temple around 5 in the morning after landing in Varanasi and left for Punjab after 2 hours by Air.
The Punjab Assembly Election was scheduled for polls on the 14th of February. However, political parties like Aam Admi Party, BJP, Congress requested the polls panels to change the dates. The followers of Guru Ravidas would not be able to vote two days before the festivals as the devotees embark on an annual pilgrimage to Varanasi on the birthday anniversary of the Guru.
Election Commission of India (ECI) has postponed the Assembly election of Punjab to the 20th of February. The counting of the polls will be on the 10th of March.
Uttar Pradesh Chief-Minter, Yogi Adityanath also visited the pilgrimage site in Varanasi around 9:45 in the morning, according to News 18.
PM Narendra Modi, also visited the Ravidas temple on the birth anniversary of the Guru in Delhi’s Karol Bagh. A video on his social media was shared by him where he is seen participating in ‘Shabad Kirtan’ at Shri Guru Ravidas Viswa Dham Mandir.
He wrote, “Very special moments at the Shri Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Mandir in Delhi.” In another post, he wrote, “The great saint Guru Ravidas Ji gave the message of treating mutual love and equality without any discrimination. Let us all contribute towards creating a society based on equality, harmony and coordination by following the path shown by Guru Ravidas ji,”
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi visited the shrine around 11 in the morning.
The visit is said to have been planned by the political leaders to eye on the votes of the Dalits.
Later, Priyanka Gandhi went to Kanpur for a door-to-door campaign for the state election in Uttar Pradesh. She would conduct the campaign in Kanpur Cantt, Kidwai Nagar, Sisamau, and Arya Nagar. She would also participate in Mahila Shakti Garjana in Kanpur’s Govindnagar.
UP is undergoing its State Assembly Election from 10th of February to 7th of March. The first two phases of the election have already been completed. The third phase of the election will hold on the 20th of February. The counting of the polls will hold on the 10th of March.
