BJP has given a ticket to a Christian candidate for the first time in 20 years. BJP’s Mohan Konkani will be fighting congress sitting MLA Punit Gamit. Yesterday, BJP sidelined all the stereotypes and gave ticket to Mohan Konkani, who has been a loyal worker of the party, since 1995. It is now being confirmed that the party is thinking of winning the Gujarat assembly elections 2022 at any cost. BJP fielding a Christian candidate took everyone with awe as it was not evident that BJP can take such a step.
Serious contenders in Congress and AAP, in front of BJP
In the Gujarat assembly elections 2002, it can be seen that BJP is being very cautious on selecting candidates. It wants to win elections and that is the only reason that it didn’t give tickets to its former CM and 39 other sitting MLAs. BJP is facing two serious contenders in the form of the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party who are giving a strong blow to the saffron party in its state which has been ruled by it (BJP) for the last 27 years.
Congress party is always believed to have been known for taking sides towards one selective community and this time the congress leaders are playing the game of being party of all religions. The AAP has been present in the state for many years now and it is having its vote bank in all communities and religions. BJP for Hindus is now an old thing and we can see the change in coming elections too.
Changing politics scenario in Gujarat Assembly Elections 2022
At first, it was thought that BJP will be fighting congress only and it will benefit from the AAP. Now the game is turned as AAP party has made its stance like that of the BJP, and the party is taking all other religions and communities with it.
Political scenario is changing as now in the modern era of social media, voters want the parties who work for them, provide jobs, give food and health security. Parties have been known1 to be giving promises and repeating them in every election instead of fulfilling them. Now voters are intelligent and educated and they know who is best for them. BJP fielding a Christian in 179 tickets is the biggest step towards political reform in religious politics.
Intelligent step of BJP filing a christian candidate
Mohan Konkani, who belongs from the tribal community from Tapi district is a BJP worker since 1995 and has been working hard to get this ticket. But this move of the BJP has not just impacted from religion but rather it is influenced from vote bank. Around 45% of voters in the Vyara constituency are Christians. In the Gujarat assembly elections 2017 BJP lost this seat to congress by 24,000 votes. The current sitting MLA from Vyara is a christian convert and has been winning this seat since 2007.
AAP giving strong blow to BJP
The AAP party is taking a stance of going after the BJP in following religious and nationalistic politics. The Aam Aadmi Party is known for its work done in Delhi and Punjab and now it’s giving a strong competition to BJP and the congress. At first it was seen that the Aam Aadmi Party will be just cutting votes of the congress but now the Aam Aadmi Party has proved itself as a serious contender and is cutting votes of both, BJP and the Congress.
These elections can prove to be fatal for the BJP and congress, if the Aam Aadmi Party again surprises with a win like Punjab and Delhi.
BJP is not a full fledged Hindu party and is going miles to chase the Gujarat Assembly elections 2022. Let’s see how things go on and will the step of BJP will benefit it or not, or it will fetch votes for the BJP by seeing that it has changed its course of action and is changing with time.
