Bajrang Dal Activists stopped them from entering the temple over Ranbir’s ‘beef’ remark in the past.
Brahmastra actor and actress Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were halted from offering prayers at Shree Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Tuesday. The Bajrang Dal protestors opposed them.
As per the police, it was already intimated to the temple committee, district administration, and the police that the couple would be offering prayers on Tuesday. Hence, the requisite elaborate security arrangements were made.
Why did the Bajrang Dal Activists oppose their darshan in the temple?
The Bajrang Dal Activists became resistant to the actor’s entrance into the temple on Tuesday. The fumes came over Ranbir Kapoor’s remarks in 2011 about beef eating.
The video halting the entry of the actors surfaced on the Internet (Social media) on Wednesday.
Seeking security concerns the duo eventually had to leave without the ‘darshan’ of the temple. While Brahmastra Director Ayan Mukherjee entered the temple and did the darshan.
Police in Action
As soon as the police were informed about it, police restored cane charge to disperse the protestors, a Mahakal Police station official said.
However, all their efforts went futile, Eyewitnesses present at the time of the incident said. Despite the police cane-charge, the protestors did not allow Ranbir and Alia to enter the temple premises.
Protestors i.e. Bajrang Dal Activists also enchanted the ‘Jai Shree Ram” slogan on the spot when both actors arrived for darshan.
Video on the Social Media
In the video, a Bajrang Dal Activist claimed that they were doing peaceful protests against the actors with black flags and placards. Also added that it was the police who resorted to violence through cane-charge and commenced cane-charge which made the protest violent.
“We are protesting against Ranbir Kapoor and will not allow them to worship at the holy Mahakaleshwar temple as a few days back Ranbir had said that he likes to eat mutton, chicken and beef in non-veg food. He made derogatory statements against our gaumata. He had said eating beef is good,” he said.
The duo though not allowed, but the director Ayan Mukherjee did enter the temple premises for the darshan. “Director Ayan Mukherjee took darshan of the deity,” temple priest Ashish Pujari said.
Ayan Mukherjee responds to the Protests that erupted due to old remarks of Ranbir over beef eating
Responding to protests that they encountered on entering the temple, film director Ayan Mukherjee asserted that he was feeling really bad that Alia and Ranbir did not come with him for darshan at Mahakaleshwar temple.
Elucidating all the major reasons that led the path to the protests
The protests erupted over Ranbir Kapoor’s video eleven years ago. In the video, Ranbir Kapoor, 39 said, “I am a mutton, paya, beef…red meat guy. I’m a big beef guy,” he said during an interview conducted over a meal.
Recently, the “beef” comment video went viral after which #BoycottBrahmastra trends on Twitter.
Brahmastra is the latest movie to face “ban” calls after several films recently starting from Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chadha, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan, and Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger.
Another major reason for the protest and boycott, Ranbir worked with Amir Khan in his movie PK which in the last few months was highlighted for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. This film became the reason for #BoycoottLaalSinghChadha.
Further, a scene from Brahmastra where Ranbir is entering the temple in Durga Puja Pandal in shoes also caused controversy. However, the director Ayan Mukerji later clarified that it was a pandal and not a temple and hence the actor is wearing shoes.
The movie ‘Brahmastra’ is all set to release on 9 September 2022, Friday.
