The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Women were having a bad run in the first Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. The Smriti Mandhana-led side was winless after five matches this season, and it took a visit from former India captain and RCB men’s team batsman Virat Kohli to lift the squad to victory.
Kanika Aahuja batted brilliantly for Royal Challengers Bangalore, who won their first game in the 2018 Women’s Premier League on Wednesday. Previously, RCB defeated UP Warriorz for 135 runs in Navi Mumbai, with Ellyse Perry taking three wickets and Sophie Devine taking two. Grace Harris fought hard with her 46-run outing, but she was outmatched by the other UPW batters. Smriti Mandhana, the RCB captain, won the toss and chose to bowl first in the game.
Kohli was the RCB Women’s team’s ‘lucky charm’ as they finally won the WPL 2024, defeating UP Warriorz by five wickets to keep their faint hopes of qualifying for the Playoffs alive. The former RCB men’s team captain is in Mumbai ahead of the first One-Day International (ODI) against Australia on Friday (March 17), and he met with the women’s squad before their match against the UP Warriorz.

The RCB women’s team was in trouble once against, chasing 136 to win, but Kanika Ahuja’s 46 off 30 balls and Richa Ghosh’s steady unbroken 31 took them to a morale-boosting triumph. “We were nervous, but Kanika and Richa’s support got us through. Kanika has made me very proud. “I think the camera showed that I was nervous at first, and we needed to win at least today,” Smriti Mandhana said after the victory on Wednesday (March 15)
Kanika and Richa, on the other hand, performed admirably. Kanika’s strategy is fantastic. Indian players are more technical, but her flare was evident. Thank you to everyone who supported us even when we weren’t in the best of positions. “This is for them,” Mandhana said.
Will Jacks of the Royal Challengers Bangalore has been ruled out of the IPL 2024 due to injury.
Will Jacks has been ruled out of the 2024 IPL due to injury, according to ESPNcricinfo.
At the December auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore signed Jacks for INR 3.2 crore (£320,000), and he would have given protection for Glenn Maxwell in their middle order.
He suffered a muscular injury while fielding in England’s recent ODI victory over Bangladesh at Mirpur, and after scans earlier this week and consultation with a specialist, he has been forced to withdraw from the IPL.
The injury is a major setback for Jacks, who had planned to use the event to familiarize himself with Indian conditions and strengthen his case for selection in England’s squad for the 50-over World Cup later this year.
Bracewell has never played in the IPL before and went unsold at the December auction, despite having a base price of INR 1 crore. On April 2, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will play their opening game of the season against the Mumbai Indians. It will be their first home game at Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium since May 2019.
Reece Topley, Jacks’ Surrey and England teammate, was also signed by RCB in the auction and is expected to be fit for the start of the season after sitting out the white-ball tour to Bangladesh with a slight niggle.
This winter, Jacks earned his England debut in all three formats, winning T20I and Test caps in Pakistan before making his ODI debut in Bangladesh.
