Reliance Foundation aids train accident rescue efforts with supplies, volunteers, and support
for affected families.
On Monday, Reliance Foundation, the philanthropic division of Reliance Industries Ltd, India’s most valuable company, unveiled several relief initiatives in response to the country’s most devastating train accident in years. These measures encompass six months of complimentary ration provisions and employment opportunities for those impacted by the tragedy.
Reliance Foundation has announced a statement regarding providing complimentary mobile connectivity for one year to a family member who is grieving, aiming to support them in rebuilding their means of living.
Free fuel to Ambulances
In response to the devastating Odisha train accident, Reliance Foundation has announced additional measures to aid in the recovery efforts. The foundation will give free fuel to disaster ambulances via the Jio-BP network. Furthermore, it will supply free medicines to the injured individuals and cover the medical expenses of those requiring hospitalization.
Reliance Foundation will also offer Essential ration
As stated in a press release, Foundation will also offer essential ration supplies, including flour, sugar, dal, rice, salt, and cooking oil, free of charge for the next six months. These supplies will be distributed to the affected families through Reliance stores.
This tragic incident, the deadliest train accident in almost thirty years, resulted in the loss of 275 lives and left hundreds injured.
Nita Ambani stated
Nita Ambani, the Founder, and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation (RF), expressed the organization’s deep concern over the railway accident that took place in Balasore, Odisha on June 2.
While acknowledging that the suffering caused by the tragedy cannot be undone, Ambani emphasized RF’s steadfast commitment to assisting the bereaved families in rebuilding their lives and preparing for the future. In light of this mission,
Ambani announced a comprehensive 10-point program aimed at providing unwavering support to those affected by this unfortunate incident.
Reliance Foundation has outlined several measures to aid the affected individuals as part of their initiatives. The foundation will offer employment opportunities, as required, to one family member of each deceased individual through Jio and Reliance Retail. Additionally, they will provide counseling services to ensure emotional and psychosocial support for those in need.
Recognizing the needs of people with disabilities, Reliance Foundation will also extend support aids such as wheelchairs and artificial limbs to assist in their rehabilitation process. These efforts aim to provide comprehensive support and assistance to the affected individuals and their families during this challenging time.
Reliance Foundation’s specialized disaster management team has been present in Balasore since the time of the accident. They worked in close coordination with the Emergency Section of the Collectorate, Balasore, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Their immediate focus was on assisting passengers in evacuating the coaches and providing prompt aid to the injured, ensuring they were swiftly transported to emergency vehicles.
The foundation ensured that essential items such as masks, gloves, ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), bedsheets, lighting, and other necessities were readily available for rescue operations at the accident site.
In the rescue efforts, Reliance Foundation volunteers played a vital role by providing gas cutters to evacuate passengers who were trapped in the coaches. They also mobilized additional volunteers from nearby communities to support the rescue operations.
To ensure uninterrupted rescue efforts, Reliance Foundation partnered with local youth volunteers to swiftly provide food for around 1,200 people. These meals were provided to the rescue personnel who were working tirelessly at the site and to the families of those affected who had arrived at the accident site.
Adequate drinking water was also ensured to meet the needs of everyone involved in the rescue operations.
The combined efforts of the Reliance Foundation and the volunteers aimed to provide immediate relief and support to the affected individuals and the rescue teams, addressing their essential requirements during this critical situation.
