Winona Ryder opens up about her breakup with Johnny Depp and the struggle she faced afterward.
Winona Ryder was the most promising young talent in Hollywood during the 80s.
She got a second chance to prove her talent again due to her role in Stranger Things.
During the 90s, she got engaged to another rising young talent, Johnny Depp.
In her recent interview, she talked about how her break-up with him affected her life and career.
They met in 1989 at the premiere of Great Balls of Fire!
In 1993, they had a break-up, three years after their engagement.
Johnny Depp changed his tattoo from Winona Forever to Wino Forever.
In her interview with Harper Bazaar, Winona talked about her break-up and how the media spotlight changed her life.
Performing as the mentally challenged girl during her troubled phase of life, she quoted:
“I remember, I was playing this character, who ends up getting tortured in a Chilean prison (in the 1994 film The House of the Spirits). I would look at these fake bruises and cuts on my face (during the shoot), and I would struggle to see myself as this little girl. ‘Would you be treating this girl like you’re treating yourself?
’ I remember looking at myself and saying, ‘This is what I’m doing to myself inside.’ Because I just wasn’t taking care of myself.”
Her co-star Michelle Pfeiffer (The Age of Innocence, 1994) noticed her difficulties and tried to console her.
She added: “I remember Michelle being like, ‘This is going to pass.’ But I couldn’t hear it. I’ve never talked about it. There’s this part of me that’s very private. I have such, like, a place in my heart for those days. But for someone younger who grew up with social media, it’s hard to describe”.
Winona first got appreciated for her performance in the 1989 film Beetlejuice.
Then she got acclaimed for films like The Age of Innocence, Little Women, and Girl, Interrupted.
She took a break during the 2000s and returned with Star trek (2009).
She has now seen in Netflix’s one of the big hits Stranger Things since 2016.
