Rick and Morty cuts ties with Justin Roiland 

‘Rick and Morty’ dumps Justin Roiland amid expanding allegations of domestic abuse.

As per sources Justin Roiland is to be recast due to the charges of domestic violence. It is in relation to the 2020 incident in Orange County, California.

Facing domestic abuse charges, Adult Swim has decided to cut ties with the star and co-creator of ‘Rick and Morty’.

The channel took to Twitter from the official handle of ‘Rick and Morty’ intending to continue with the seventh season of the show but ending its eternal association with Justin Roiland.

Roiland was announced innocent in 2020 but had to undergo dozens of court hearings in these two-and-a-half years. Finally, they announced through NBC that the long-aired animated show is now set to mark its mark with a new cast for the seventh season.

Which role is played by Justin Roiland in the hit animated comedy ‘Rick and Morty’?

Roiland is the voice of two prime characters Rick and Morty and will, recast for the voice role ,announced by Marie Moore, the senior vice-president of communications at Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns Adult Swim.

Now Dan Harmon will be the sole showrunner. Due to its popularity, the channel which will make the animated show reach its tenth season.

What are the projects that Justin is associated with other than ‘Rick and Morty’?

Apart from the voice of Rick and Morty, he is also associated with Squanch games, the video game company co-founded by Roiland. They also announced on Twitter that Roiland resigned.

In an inquiry by the news channels, the Squanch games, they stated that he resigned from his post back on January 16, 2024.

He is part of projects aired on Hulu. He is also the co-creator of another science-fiction show named Solar Opposites.

Koala Man premiered on Jan. 9, he is the voiceover artist and an executive producer. An overall deal with the 20th Television Animation produces Solar Opposite and Koala Man is also in his list of works.

What charges is Justin Roiland from ‘Rick and Morty’ facing?

Roland was charged guilty in 2020 on account of domestic violence with corporal injury and a false imprisonment by fraud or menace or deceit following an incident in 2020 with an anonymous Jane Doe whom he was dating back then. In accordance with the criminal complaint filed against him in the year of 2020 as reported by the Orange County District Attorney, he was again arrested and released on penalty of 40,75,675.00 INR, on August 2020 and arraigned in October 2020. A protective order was passed in October 2020 against him wherein he cannot be near to the alleged victim within 100 feet. 

His attorney T. Edward Welbouen called the media coverage of his case to be erroneous.

The attorney cleared the air by stating that Justin is innocent and they are filled with confidence that in course of time, the case will be dismissed. A methodological review is urged by them. They look forward to wiping off the stain in the character of Justin such that he can move on with his work in full form.

After the 12 January hearing, the Internet exploded with allegations against him of abuse and predatory behavior toward minors. 

The next pre-trial hearing is all set for April 27.

What is the future of ‘Rick and Morty’ in the absence of Justin Roiland?

Co-creator and executive producer, the prime voice of the show Rick and Morty, Roiland played an outsize role. The sixth season earned a whopping 560,000 live viewers per episode and concluded in December 2022. The fact is that seventh season is not going to have 70 episodes. The number 70 is the total of episodes that were renewed in 2018,taking the show to its tenth season.

The question now arises, what will be the future of the show without Roiland ? The voice artist will be recast for the remaining three seasons. Harmon will be the solo showrunner. Now the question arises, whether it will be a successful season or a recast might get turned down by the viewers ?. 

With Adult Swim finally cutting off the ties with the show’s everlasting face, Roiland. The future ahead will itself be a show to watch.
